Doesn’t a touch of romance make you smile? Check out the wonderful entries to our Most Romantic Tip or Anecdote competition here. It really was very difficult to choose a favourite - I wish I could give you all prizes! After a lot of deliberation I have decided that the winner of the Radical Departure Skincare Kit is RebeccaCookes with some wonderful advice on marriage from her h2b's nan.

'Be prepared to forgive, always look forward never look back. Love, laughter, listening and a little luck will get you through most of life's hurdles, but mostly kiss. Kiss all the time!'

Congratulations Rebecca, and thanks to everyone who took part. We will have another fab competition scheduled soon, so stay tuned!

Hot Topic

There has been a lot of talk on the forum recently about whether or not children should be invited to your wedding. Of course, the answer will be different for each couple - you can have your say here. I have also collected together the following tips for those of you who are having kids at your wedding.

The old actors' adage warns never work with children or animals. Needless to say I totally disagree. However, it can’t be denied that children (like monkeys) can be unpredictable and you will need to accept that things may not go according to plan. Children get bored easily and you need to be prepared.

Of course, offsetting the chance of tantrums is the fact that children can add so much to your wedding and look wonderful in your photos. Talking of photos, you will want to have your photographer take the photos with children in them early on. The kids will get bored (and mucky!) the longer they have to wait around.

One good idea is to give kids little jobs to do. It helps them feel involved and keeps them busy. Altar boy or flower girl are the obvious choices but other examples may be having them hand out programmes to the guests, being in charge of the guest book or showing people to their seats. If you are having a child as your ring bearer, then make sure the rings are firmly fixed to the cushion (some people even sew fake rings onto the cushion just in case).

When dressing children for the wedding day, make sure they are comfortable in their clothes. I would suggest shoes with good grips on the bottom of them - church and reception venues often have quite slippy floors for speedy children. Remember to 'break in' new shoes and clothes - we all know how uncomfortable it feels to be wearing a new pair of shoes for hours.

Children at weddings

Having someone to entertain the children will take a lot of pressure off and allow mums and dads to enjoy themselves too. Magicians, face painting and balloon-animal modelling are all tried and tested ways of keeping the kids happy for a while. Even a creche is a possibility if lots of young children are attending. Having colouring books and toys is a great way to keep the children occupied when your entertainer is not around.

Wedding planner Bernadette Chapman suggests a small bag of raisins and a little puzzle as a great way to keep kids occupied during the service. Read Bernadette's 16 tips for Child-friendly weddings here.

Map Yourself

I just wanted to remind you about the map for WeddingPath members and vendors. Not only is it a lot of fun to see whereabouts in the world other members live, but it is also really useful. If you are a b2b/h2b you can look for others in your area and exchange information on local vendors, arrange to buy products together (bulk discount!) etc. If you are a vendor (vendors are the white pins), b2bs/h2bs in your area will be able to click on your pin and see information about you (URL, what you do etc) - free advertising!

It only takes a moment to add yourself to the map, and the more of you who do it the more useful it becomes.

Have a fab week.

Love and apples!!!
