Winter Wedding

There's no denying that winter is finally with us, and the WeddingPath team has been thinking of some of the positives about this time of year. For one thing, it's a great time to get married! Here are just some of the reasons why:

Winter Church

Atmosphere. A service and reception can be beautifully atmospheric in winter a warm, cosy venue provides a stunning contrast if it's cold and dark outside.

Budget. Many suppliers and venues offer discounts for weddings that are outside the peak summer months.

Weather. The success of some summer weddings depends partly on what Mother Nature decides to throw your way. If you know not to expect warmth and sun, you won't waste valuable energy worrying about the possibility of cold and rain! Or there's always the option of tying the knot abroad if you're a real sun-worshipper...

Great themes and colour schemes. Let your imagination run riot as you plan your dream winter wedding. See below for some ideas:

Winter Wedding Ideas

Wnter Hearts

• Create a wonderland with white linen and flowers, winter twigs and white fairy lights.

• Combine shades of rich red with deep green tones. Accent these shades with some bright winter white to freshen the look.

• Use eye-catching snowglobes or miniature evergreen trees as seasonal table centrepieces.

• Decorate your venue with swags of heavy fabric in bold tones.

• Be different. Midnight blue is a great alternative colour for a winter wedding – especially when teamed with silver or white. Or just buck the trend altogether and go for pastel shades!

• Have fun with foliage. Add holly berries to your bouquet and hang mistletoe in the doorways for some traditional holiday fun.

• Gingerbread favours. Cookies make a lovely seasonal favour and look pretty when iced with a design of the bride and groom's choice.

First dance - yes or no?

WeddingPathers have been chatting on the forum about possible first-dance options. Many people believe the first dance is one of the highlights of any wedding, but the very thought of it makes some of our members shudder and they've decided to skip the tradition. What do you think?
