Happy New Year

I hope you had a wonderful Christmas and want to wish you a very happy 2007.

My new year's resolution is to travel even more! My next stop is an ice hotel in Sweden with Chompy the shark and his mum and dad! If you would like me to come to your wedding and/or honeymoon (and I am a very compact, well-behaved monkey), please pop over to my profile page and check the about me section to see what my travel plans are. If my schedule is clear, and you want to send me an invite, please post on my message board.

BTW, in case you don't know, you have a WeddingPath profile page too:

My profile

If you log-in and look at my links' (in the pink menu bar) you will see my profile. On your profile page you can do things such as change your avatar, build a list of friends or wedding twins, keep a blog and much more.

Profile

If you look at the links on the left of your profile page, you will see that you can choose RSS News. This allows you to follow updates on other websites - it even has a daily sudoku puzzle. We have some sample feeds set up, but just click on 'change this feed' to choose a different site. This is an easy way to keep an eye on all your favourite websites from just one page.

Hot Topic

A new year is of course the time for new resolutions and it is a great time to start getting in the best shape you can for your wedding day. There has been a lot of chatter on the forum about how best to achieve this. If you want to read other WPers' suggestions and add yours, click here.

If you want to learn more about increasing your fitness level, check out the fantastic article by Fitstop's Karen Ashton from here.

Wedding Budget

How much will my wedding actually cost? is a common question in the early days of planning. Of course the answer depends on what sort of wedding you are going to have. To get an idea of what some other members are expecting to spend, click here.

There are many ways to keep your budget down. Here are a few of my top tips;

• The winter months are usually classed as 'off season' for weddings so great deals on venues etc can be had. By contrast, June tends to be the most expensive month.

• Saturday is the most expensive day to get married, so consider another day.

• Go to wedding fairs to look for deals; you often find substantial discounts at these events.

• Consider wedding DIY projects, like making your own invites, or asking a talented friend to make your cake. This saves money and adds a unique element to your wedding.

• When shopping for shoes, flowers, cakes etc, consider not mentioning the word 'wedding'. It’s amazing how the ‘w’ word can bump up the price!

Ask for a discount. Prices are not always fixed and it is worth negotiating to try and get a better deal. Specialised wedding shops don't tend to give discounts but other places may, especially if you are buying in bulk.

Ask your family and friends if they have any contacts who may be able to help. Uncle Ted might just have an old school friend in the printing buisiness who will give you a great deal!

Got a great money-saving tip I haven’t thought of? Please email me at margo@weddingpath.com, or share it with other members on the WeddingPath planning forum.

Have a fab week.

Love and apples!!!
