Last week’s newsletter on centrepieces certainly got members talking. and I’d like to share two members’ comments in particular.

The first is from professional toastmaster Jim Clapperton. "With regard to you centrepiece article, please ask organisers to bear in mind the height. I have officiated at many weddings where the first thing guests do is ask me to 'dispose' of the centrepiece as it forms a barrier between the guests. I recommend nothing higher than the average wine glass."

The second email is from Sharon, who pointed out that goldfish are actually not a great idea for table centrepieces. She says: "Fish are extremely sensitive creatures, and whilst a lot of people (unfortunately) do just keep them in bowls, this is not the ideal environment for them. Ideally goldfish should be kept in tanks of a suitable size that have proper filtration."

Goldfish

Thanks, Jim and Sharon, for sharing your words of wisdom – this is what WeddingPath is all about!

Oh, and all this talk of goldfish has reminded me of one of my favourite ongoing forum threads- WeddingPath pets.

Tip of the week

Not only are wedding fairs a lot of fun; they are a great place to find bargains as well - as one of our members, Caitlin Hughes, knows from personal experience:

"You could save a lot of money by buying your dress at a wedding show, then arranging the alterations yourself. Exhibitors will knock off about 20% as standard, and then if you haggle at the end of the show you could save even more! I saved £250 by buying my Jenny Packham dress at the National Wedding Show in Earl's Court, and then just needed to take the hem up."

Thanks so much for the hint, Caitlin! And just for my future reference: do you know if exhibitors bring monkey-sized dresses to the shows with them?

Do you have a Tip of the Week or something you would like me to discuss? Email me if so.

WeddingPath markets

The WeddingPath markets board is an area where vendors can advertise (free) and b2bs/h2bs can look for good deals. It is also the place for 'just married's' to sell some of their unneeded items.

If you are looking for something in particular for your wedding then a visit to the WeddingPath vendor directory is a great place to start.

I recently updated my blog with details of my trip to Karen and Elis's wedding. I also spent Christmas and New Year with them and had a brilliant time. You can see photos and read all about it here. In case you didn't realise, you have a WeddingPath blog as well - just go to your profile page.

Champagne!

Have a fab week.
