I have spent the week stuck to the ceiling, thanks to all that caffeine in my Easter eggs! I got eleven in total and managed to beat my all-time record and eat them in half a day. In retrospect it may not have been my best idea – I do hope you were more sensible…
This week I am going to talk about gifts for members of the wedding party. There have been some fab suggestions on the forum recently and I want to share them with you.

Who do you get gifts for, and how much should you spend? Your wedding is unique to you and your partner, so you have to decide what is right for you. However, traditionally, the bride and groom get gifts for bridesmaids, groomsmen, ushers, flower girl, ring bearer, page boys and parents. Favours for the guests and, of course, something for your partner are also often bought. . This is not necessarily a complete list – for example you may want to get gifts for people who have been particularly helpful (for example, you might want to thank a friend or relative who did the floral arrangements).
It is always a good idea to try and get something personal: if your best man loves his single malt, perhaps a bottle of his favourite tipple would be appropriate. Other ideas for the men would be cuff links, a nice tie, an engraved pen, watch or hip flask.
For the girls, how about jewellery, an engraved jewellery box or vase, a mirror compact, or a goody bag full of items like make-up or skincare products. Things don’t have to be expensive, but thoughtfulness goes a long way. To take one example, a company I know of does a range of mini lip glosses that attach to your phone.
For a unique touch, some gifts can be engraved – you might consider adding the person’s name, the wedding date or perhaps a 'thank you' message. Be sure to be very specific about what you want – supply the engraver with the exact wording and spelling.
For him or her: theatre tickets, spa voucher, chocolates, cut crystal glasses or skin care items (yes, men use these too).
Other fab tips from the forum (thanks guys!) are:
• Engraved silver yo-yos for the ushers.
• A year's sponsorship of a minke whale for the flowergirl.
• White dressing gowns - with the word ‘bridesmaid’ on the back and the bridesmaids’ initials on the front - done with pretty iron-on crystals.
• A Lovefilm voucher, and the promise to watch a film with her, along with popcorn, marshmallows etc.
• An engraved quaich or tankard.
• A star named after them.

You will be on your feet a fair bit during your wedding day and the last thing you want is blisters (that would put a damper on your first dance). If you are wearing new shoes on the day, make sure you break them in. Wearing them around the house for a couple of days should do the trick. It is also a good idea to sandpaper the bottom of the shoe if they are slippery.
