Buy your wedding ring online? 1508 views
Most couples still take the traditional approach to buying their engagement and wedding rings – paying a visit to the shops. The modern alternative – an online purchase – is an option that many haven’t considered. WeddingPath asked Mark Ramsden to address some common concerns about this method of buying.
I can’t see any advantage to buying online…
“Well, probably the biggest one is price. Online sellers usually don’t have the costs associated with a retail setup, so they can display the best prices. Another advantage is the ability to compare prices easily from site to site, then buy from your armchair.”
Is there the same amount of choice as in the shops?
“In fact, online sellers tend to be able to display a much greater range of designs because they don’t have to fit them in a physical space.”
I’m nervous about buying a ring without seeing it first
“This is understandable, but bear in mind that most reputable online sellers offer a money-back guarantee, so if you aren’t happy with your order you can simply send it back within the stated time period.”
How can I be sure my credit-card details are safe?
“For peace of mind, make sure the site you’re buying from displays security certificates, and has what’s called a security protection seal, such as the Hacker Safe certification mark.”
How can I make sure the ring is the right size for me?
“Ring-sizers are sent out so customers can check the size they have ordered. In addition, many companies offer a resizing service if the size can’t be checked in advance (if it’s a surprise gift, for example).”
When will my ring be delivered?
“It depends on the company and the item in question. To give you an idea, standard delivery time for wedding rings bought from our company is around 10 to 14 days. It can be faster, though – you wouldn’t believe how many couples leave it till a week before the wedding to order their rings!”
Can I get advice on what to look for in a diamond?
“The website of a reputable seller often includes information and advice on what people should understand when buying a diamond. It’s also worth checking in advance that the seller is contactable by email and phone to answer questions. One thing you should ask is whether the rings on sale are certificated so you can be sure of the quality of diamond you are buying.”
What other questions should I ask?
“Pretty much anything that concerns you about the purchase. You could also ask about engraving options, or possible modifications to existing designs. Much to some people’s surprise, for example, some online companies – ours included – can provide bespoke rings as well as those pictured on the site.”
The Beautiful Company sells a wide selection of jewellery including engagement and wedding rings.
