- The challenge was to get as far as they could in 24 hours with just £10. The prize, offered on Surrey's Eagle Radio, was a £10,000 dream wedding with a luxury reception, jewellery, bridal wear, cakes, cars, flowers, photography and a honeymoon trip. The whole package (except the rent-a-guests)!! Stella Morris from Farnham, Surrey won the prize by getting 490 miles away from Eagle Radio's Guildford headquarters by blagging her way to a small fishing village in the North-West Highlands of Scotland. On a tenner! That's pretty impressive going. I want to know how she did it.
- Wayne Rooney and Coleen McLoughlin are reported to of signed a £2.5 million deal with a magazine for the rights to cover their wedding. I can't help but find this sort of thing distasteful - selling the rights to publicise what is supposed to be a celebration and commitment of love. It seems inevitable that the focus will shift from making the day special for the couple, family and friends to making the day look good for the magazine (we assume either OK or Hello). On top of it, why do we care? Yes, he is good at kicking a ball around a pitch and she is marrying a guy who can kick a ball around a pitch – is that really worth this much attention? My vote is we start supporting, and paying properly, the people that really matter – teachers, nurses, traffic wardens (ok, so maybe not traffic wardens). These are the people who actually make the country a better place. OK, rant over. Anyone for a game of footie – I need to practice my skills so I can get signed.

- David and Victoria Beckham reportedly renewed their wedding vows - but the event has been kept a secret for nearly two years. A source said: “David was meticulously planning the big day for months. It was a huge undertaking to keep it all under wraps.” The ceremony took place on 8th May 2006 at their Hertfordshire home, dubbed Beckingham Palace, but unlike their original star-studded wedding at Luttrellstown Castle, Ireland in 1999 which earned them an estimated six figures from an exclusive photo deal, the second ceremony was only observed by a handful of friends and family. Renewing your vows....what do you think of that? I'm still trying to get Colin to propose for the first time.
- As Lynn Kuczajda thought trains were romantic she decided to tie the knot with Robert on an American Amtrak train. The train seats were decorated in white linen with bows on the sides and name cards overhead. Kuczajda says she has fond memories of train rides to Toronto when she was younger. Good luck to the couple. They are already on a roll.
- Oasis star Liam Gallagher has tied the knot with his girlfriend Nicole Appleton in the same venue where he married first wife Patsy Kensit. In the same venue…. I'm not sure what to make of that!

- Hollywood couple Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt look set to marry - after Jolie called a truce with his mom. The ‘Tomb Raider’ babe, 32, who is believed to be pregnant with twins, will exchange vows with the 44-year-old ‘Fight Club’ hunk (hubba hubba) near their US home in a private spring wedding. A source revealed that Brad’s mother Jane will be there after the two women buried the hatchet. Angelina and Jane were at loggerheads over her relationship with Brad’s ex-wife, Jennifer Aniston. But Jane has made peace by donating to cancer research (Angelina’s mother died of ovarian cancer a year ago aged 56). Even in Tinseltown the mums have too much power in a relationship don't they!

- Nearly 600 Mexican couples tied the knot in a mass Valentine's Day wedding by the US border, many of them undocumented migrants who met while working illegally in the United States. As a live band blasted out sugary Mexican love songs in the border city of Tijuana, a short walk from the busy San Ysidro crossing into California, a judge simultaneously married a crowd of couples whose ages ranged from 16 to 65. Talk about a group wedding!
- Las Vegas is the centre of the themed wedding industry. A few examples. Excalibur hotel - a royal medieval wedding can be arranged with over 40 costumes to choose from. The Bellagio hotel - you can say your "I do's" overlooking Lake Como. The Hilton - you can stand on the deck of the Starship Enterprise in Starfleet uniforms with the minister in a Trekkie wedding jacket. George Clooney can attend your wedding at the Madame Tussauds Wax museum - well the wax version anyway. For me, the best one at Treasure Island Hotel with the sea captain officiating and the pirate serving as the best man. When the time comes to exchange the rings a pirate swings down from the mast and presents the rings. Aye Aye captain! I think Margo will end up wanting the Madame Tussauds one with George Clooney and the Hoff looking on.

- They were Britain's oldest newlyweds, with a combined age of 177 - but now a pair of not-so-young pretenders have waltzed off with the record previously held by Peggy and James Mason. The Masons, aged 84 and 93 respectively married in November when their ages totalled 177. But today Cyril Sergeant and Madge Robbins were set to become Britain's oldest newlyweds – with a combined age of 178. The couple first met at through friends. Soon they were in love and last February, 18 months later, Cyril went down on one knee in the entrance of Madge's retirement home. "I knew I liked her the first time I saw her, but it took three months before I could talk to her, because she was always deep in conversation with other people," he said. Cyril who also added: "I'm delighted to have picked Madge up – she really is an understanding woman and a very good cook!" We love the fact that it doesn't matter how old you are a man is still after you for your cooking.
- Tiny Diff'rent Strokes star Gary Coleman has married a woman half his age (and twice his height) in a secret mountain top ceremony. The 4ft 8in star married 22-year-old Shannon Price in August in Nevada, US, but they have been keeping their vows under wraps, the pair told celebrity television show Inside Edition. Click here to see a photo. What you talkin' about Willis? Do you think he is fed up with catchline?

- Let me just start with this - Randolf Edge, what a muppet. Not only is the guy a bigamist, but he was caught when he invited a guest to his second wedding who had also attended his first. So he is a bigamist and stupid. It also turns out he is highly manipulative - he started dating Patience Carey when she was 17, proposed to her a year later, and married her in 2004 - even though he was still married to Edna Winkle whom he married in 2002. It gets weirder though, both wives have forgiven him and he and Edna are going to give their marriage another try - even though Randolf is still living with Patience. I can't decide if Edna and Patience are stupid as well, or just extremely confused? Do yourselves a favour girls, dump him and find someone to treat you with the respect you deserve.

- Scarlet Johansson has got the rumour mills whirring by being spotted in Los Angeles looking at wedding dresses. Johansson, her mother and sister were spotted at the Monique Lhuillier boutique in L.A. Her spokesman claims there is 'no truth' in the rumour that she will wed boyfriend Ryan Reynolds. If I was a celeb I would have so much fun with the tabloids. I would do things like walkout of a bank crying - to start rumours of my financial demise. I would stuff cushions in my top and trousers and then walk out of a doughnut shop with 3 dozen cakes so they can speculate on my sudden weight gain. I would browse wedding dress shops, just because I like to, and have the tabloids think I was getting married. Darn, maybe that is what Scarlet is doing????

- Wedding Crashers star, Isla Fisher, has joked about not inviting co-stars Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn to her wedding to Sacha Baron Cohen - just to see if they will crash it. I am hoping that Sacha will reinact the fantastic 'Borat, wrestling nude in a hotel room' scene at the reception with both Owen and Vince. Now that would get even more youtube hits then the Hoff's 'drink-a-thon'.
- In the Dallas area's first-ever "running of the brides," nearly 100 young women plowed through the doors of the four-hour event, where some 200 designer gowns were all priced at $99. The gowns usually retail from $349 to nearly $1,000. Most of the young maidens came with family and friends who were in charge of finding dresses while the brides-to-be quickly stripped down to sports bras and shorts. Calls of "Grab a size 8," "Do you like it? Yes, just grab it," and "I said no tulle!" could be heard above the fracas as bridezillas shimmied in and out of dozens of dresses. I would love to have seen a youtube clip of that! I feel for the security guards at the venue. I wonder how many fights they had to break up. Imagine the caption contest - don't come between a bride and her perfect dress!

- After her ex-husband had the most public wedding of 2008 marrying a young model, she has decided to bring forward her wedding herself. Who's had the last laugh now? While Nicolas Sarkozy marries a model his ex-wife, Cecilia, is marrying the millionaire Richard Attias. I personally think they've both moved on and done really well for themselves.

- A jury awarded $322,751 in damages to a mother who sued her daughter's wedding decorator. The decorator was paid $25,000 for their work. Evidently missing flowers, sagging tulips, decapitated roses and a mass of other problems ruined the big day. Originally the decorator got the job by showing photos - of someone else’s work. It just goes to show - always check your references! On first read I thought the money awarded was a bit extreme, but according to this account it seems the vendor was completely useless and is now in hiding.
- Actor Colin Farrell is known to be a bit of a naughty boy (and let's face it, I would spank him given half a chance), but he has a sweet side as well. He is going to be best man when his brother Eamonn marries boyfriend Steven Mannion in Provincetown, Massachusetts. Colin helped Eamonn choose the engagement ring and evidently is even paying for the wedding. The couple evidently choose to marry in the U.S. as Irish law doesn't recognize same sex weddings.

- Groomgroove.com - an engagement and wedding website for men - has partnered up with industry expert over health and fitness, diamond selection, wedding attire and grooming. The site aims to help grooms on the trip down the aisle. There will be advice from a jewellery expert, fitness trainer, co-owner of a spa and a tailor. So now the men have no excuse for not doing their part of the wedding planning properly. The only thing that concerns me is that the catchline for groomgrove.com (you've gotta love the website name!) is 'the web's best roadmap for a groom's trip down the aisle.' Now if we have to draw a map for a groom to walk down the aisle I think there are bigger concerns than their selection of suits.
- A wedding dress worth UAE Dh150,000 (approximately £21,000) is drawing huge attention at the Bride Show held in Abu Dhabi. The wedding dress uses more than 200,000 genuine Swarovski crystals. The designer, Ankur Batra, said the dress took more than three months to complete and is one of his most intricate designs yet. Can you imagine the trash the dress pictures with that number on? Click here to see a picture of it.

- Madonna and Guy Ritchie are evidently going to renew their wedding vows. Rumour has it the couple want to celebrate getting their marriage back on track after a difficult few years. The couple originally had a massive wedding at Skibo Castle in Scotland in 2000. Stella McCartney is going to design Madonna's outfit for the event and Gwyneth Paltrow is said to be doing a reading. By reading I assume they don't mean reading tea leaves, although it is anyone guess. It has been suggested the renewal of vows is just a publicity stunt as both Madonna and Ritchie have films out soon - Ritchie's last few have tanked and Madonna's directorial debut is not exactly tipped to be a winner. I find it hard to believe Madonna would ever do anything just for publicity though. Good luck to them though, and I truly hope that they have worked out their differences.

- Following the publication of pictures of a marriage ceremony between two men police in Senegal have arrested several men. Icone Magazine published the photos, and its editor Mansour Dieng has since received death threats. According to the BBC, it is not clear if the arrests have been made in regard to the wedding (homosexuality is illegal in Senegal) or the death threats. Horrifyingly, Senegal is only one of about 70 countries where homosexuality is illegal. In some countries being gay is punishable by the death penalty.
- A New Zealand bride and her husband were being driven to their hotel after their wedding reception when they were rear-ended by a drunk driver at some traffiic lights. Bride, Rhiannon Mabbett, called the police while the drunk driver tried to get his car moving again - only to run over the bride's dress. Now that in itself is a crime against brides, so feisty Rhiannon reached into the car and took the drivers keys. The driver made a run for it, and Rhiannon (in full wedding attire) chased after him. Finally her and husband Jeff trapped him in an alleyway until the police arrived. From b2bs around the world - we salute you Rhiannon, may you and Jeff have a fantastic life together.

- Bridesmaids may soon be forced to sign contracts agreeing not to put on weight or get pregnant before a friend's wedding. According to a You and Your Wedding poll, one in five brides-to-be is so concerned of being let down that they would ask her maid-of-honour to sign a written "pre-nuptial agreement." The 'worst' bridesmaid 'crimes' were putting on weight, changing their hairstyles or becoming pregnant. I think there may be a drop in best friends accepting the bridesmaid honour if they knew that they had a sign a vow of celibacy until after the wedding, complete a weight chart every week or get clearance from the bride-to-be before going to the hairdressers.

- Pharrell Williams, the hip hop star, became a really life 'Wedding Crasher'. Evidently Williams had stopped to take photos of the traditional orthodox Jewish wedding and was invited to join in by the guests. Guest, Michelle Saka, said "He was taking pictures of us because he thought it was strange that the men weren't dancing together". It seems that no one knew who he was, so Williams spent most of the evening telling everybody what a star he is. Call me old fashioned, but crashing someone elses wedding and then running about bragging about how famous you are smells like an ultra fragile ego. There is some speculation he spent most of his time at the buffet, picking up and then dropping toasted bagels while singing 'Drop It Like It's Hot' to himself.

- In Delhi a woman turned up at her husband's wedding and beat him up with a pair of slippers. Evidently the man, Mukesh Khanna, had been married to Reena Khanna for four years when he decided to take another wife. Mrs Khanna, who is currently pregnant, discovered her husband's plans when she stumbled upon a wedding card. She went to the venue to confront him, with photos of their marriage, and then thrashed him up. Members of the bridal party also joined in when they realised what had happened. Mr Khanna and his father Manjeet have been arrested for cheating, criminal breach of trust and criminal conspiracy.
- Also in India, actress Julie Christie married journalist Duncan Campbell in a secret wedding. Ms Christie is currently up for an Oscar for her performance in Away From Her and is best known for playing Lara Antipova in Dr Zhivago (1965). The couple have been together for 28 years I guess they won't be needing any kitchen items for wedding presents.

- Sean Bean, who played Boromir in the Lord of the Rings, has set a new date for his wedding to Georgina Sutcliffe. The original January 3rd wedding was cancelled due to a family illness. The couple became romantically involved after Sean accidently texted Georgina - he claims he was tying to text his assistant Chris. You can understand the mistake as Georgina/Chris are pretty similar names??? Come clean Sean, you fancied her rotton and used the old 'accidental text' trick. Rumour has it that Frodo the Hobbit might be a ring bearer - again. Poor wee lad thought he was done with all that ring business.

- Martha Stewart has a new book and about wedding cakes, crafitly called 'Martha Stewart's Wedding Cakes'. Martha used to be the squeaky clean face of America's 'soccer mums', until she was convicted of lying and obstructing justice and jailed. I wonder if there will be a chapter in the book on 'hiding files in cakes to aid prison breaks'.
- Comedian Steve Coogan is to marry a China Cow... sorry make that China Chow. Ms Chow is the daughter of Michael Chow who owns celeb hang out and restaurant 'Mr Chow' in Knightsbridge. Steve has been known for slightly dubious relationship choices (e.g. Courtney Love) but now is said to be settling down, so perhaps s Chow will be a stable influence.

- A drunk wedding guest, at a Hampshire wedding, borrowed a friend's car to go and get some cigarettes and got spotted by the police. The motorist, David Twine, tried to evade the police before driving into a cul-de-sac. He jumped out of the car and tried to hide behind a hedge - what a muppet. Mr Twine was jailed for 16 weeks and banned from driving for three years.
- The Queen's eldest grandson, Peter Phillips, is to wed Canadian Autumn Kelly (what a great name!). The ceremony will take place at Crathie Kirk (church), near Balmoral, in May - which of course is spring, not autumn. Ms Kelly is Roman Catholic, so unless she renounces her faith, Peter Phillips will lose his place in the line of the succession to the Throne upon marriage (in accordance with the Act of Settlement 1701).

- A tour operator in Vietnam is organizing a 'mass underwater wedding' on Valentine's day. 'Mass' might be a little of a misnomer, but there will be 10 couples getting married. The event will actually last for three days (giving people time to learn scuba diving skills) and the couples will wear wetsuits and traditional Vietnamese costumes. I imagine signing the registry will be a particular challenge. Interested? - read more.

- Mel B, the first Spice Girl to have a #1 solo single and the first Spice Girl to have Eddie Murphy (we assume) has set a date for her second wedding to Stephen Belafonte . They had a small ceremony in secret last June, but now want a star-studded event in April 2008. I guess she really 'wannabe' his wife, so '2 Become 1'. OK, I will stop now as I am even annoying myself.

- Gone are the days when being 'green' meant people thought you lived in a tree (remember Swampy) and were unwashed and smelly. Now, concern about our environment is important to most of us. There are some good ideas on how you can make you wedding green without making guests uncomfortable in this article.
- Valentino, the Italian fashion designer, is retiring after 45 years in the fashion business. A couple of his most famous creations were Jackie Kennedy Onassis’s wedding gown and the dress Julia Roberts the night she won her Oscar. Let's face it, if you can make Julia Roberts look natural on screen then you are a genius. Born in 1932, Valentino has had an amazing career and created some wonderful pieces. There has been the occasional dog though. So hats off to a true icon of fashion and his amazing orange tan.

- This is quite a sweet story - albeit with a strong smell! A Seattle Husband stripped down to his underwear and dived into a sewer to retrieve his wife's wedding ring - his wife had dropped it down there while cleaning. At first he couldn't find the ring so he went and bought a wetsuit for a second dip. Finally he had the drain pumped out and recovered the ring. So, a man dives into a sewer but comes out smelling of roses! - read more.
- In another bit of classic 'not much going on, so let's talk about this' news, certain papers have made an announcement that Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds are going to announce their engagement. So let me get this straight, it is an announcement to announce an announcement. Scarlett used to be engaged to Josh Hartnett and Ryan was engaged to Alanis Morrissette so it is all change on the celebrity love roundabout - ohhh, those wacky celebs.

- The Times has as interesting list of '20 hot wedding trends for 2008'. When I say interesting I actually mean silly. Most of the ideas seem to come from the "if you can't think of anything to do, throw money at it and hope some sticks" school of thought. For example: Imaginative favours Forget the sugared almonds, buy each of your guests the ultimate favour – an iPod Nano preloaded with your and his favourite tunes. Hardly a realistic proposal for most b2bs/h2bs. Yes, if you have the budget and these are the things you really want the go for it, but don't do it because some one else tells you it is a 'hot trend' - especially when the 'hot trend' just involves buying/renting more of their product (see the Marquee man's idea). There are a couple of good ideas here though so it is worth a read.
Friday Jan 18th 2008 - updated 11.00am
- Rolling Stones guitarist, Ronnie Wood, was in tears at his sons wedding, and was evidently comforted by Kate Moss. I can't imagine Ms Moss being much comfort to anyone, she isn't exactly a bastion of togetherness herself. Anyway, I think Ronnie was really crying because Keith Richards made him sit through another showing of 'Pirates of the Caribbean - At World's End'. A film is so bad it would reduce anyone to tears. You can read more here.
- Eddie Murphy and his partner Tracey Edmonds have ditched plans for a wedding two weeks after a symbolic ceremony on Bora Bora. They have decided to remain 'good friends' - and we all know what that means. Murphy spent most of last year denying he was he father of Scary Spice's baby. He divorced his wife of 13 years in 2006, but evidently has a history of 'playing the field', including a 1997 dalliance with a pre-op transsexual hooker. Can you spell 'long-term mid-life crisis' Eddie?

- In Montana on Wednesday Sergeant Ryan Thompson and U.S. Army Specialist Barbara Hines were married. The only thing is, neither of them were actually at the ceremony. Montana is the only U.S. state that allows a wedding in which neither the bride or groom need to be present. I assume they need to be present to consummate the relationship, but who really knows. To add to confusion, they were actually married before, but divorced. My head hurts. You can read more here.
- President Bush's daughter Jenna has set a wedding date. She will marry fiance Henry Hager on May 10th on the Bush ranch in Crawford Texas. Jenna has graduated from using fake IDs to buy alcohol to teaching in Washington DC. She is currently writting a second book wih her mother to help and engourage children to read. Rumours that the book has been road tested on her dad are purely speculative. More here.

- Tim Burton is finally going to marry his girlfriend Helena Bonham Carter. The two met on The Planet of the Apes - well not actually on the planet as it is all make believe. Not the wedding, that is true, the Planet of the Apes was make believe. I have confused myself again. I wonder if Edward Scissorhands will do her hair? You can read more here.

- According to French newspapers Sarkozy might of married Bruni in a secret ultra quiet service. Basically no one really has a clue. Anyway since when has 'might have' really been news?, I mean I 'might have' three tons of Brinks Mat gold bullion under my bed. Actually I don't, all I have is an old pair of socks and a worn copy of 'Monkey's digest'. To read more about this 'possible' story then visit Reuters.
