US Couple who fell ill sue rehearsal restaurant 540 views
A newly married couple from Iowa, United States is suing the restaurant where they held their wedding rehearsal the evening before their big day.
Andrew and Sara Slagle claim that they, along with 20 of their guests became sick after eating at the Trostel’s Greenbriar Restaurant where the rehearsal was held.
An investigation carried out by Polk County Health Department concluded that the chef who had prepared the salads for the meal that night had a stomach illness. The official cause was determined to be norovirus, a highly contagious bug.
A total of 71 people, who ate at the restaurant that night, became sick the following day. Restaurant owner Paul Trostel said his insurance company has settled with many of the customers who had fallen ill.
"I feel very terrible about this situation that happened once in 20 years," he said. "It could have happened to any restaurant, but unfortunately it happened at the Greenbriar."
In the lawsuit filed this week, the Slagle couple want Mr Trostel to pay for another reception and the medical bills of those that fell ill. That's according to their attorney Roxanne Conlin of Des Moines.
