COMBE HOUSE, DEVON

If it’s olde worlde glamour with a touch of modern chic you’re looking for on your wedding day, Combe House near Exeter in Devon is the place to head.

Hidden in lush Devonshire countryside, the hotel is a romantic, Grade I Elizabethan manor steeped in history and country charm – the ideal setting for an elegant, exclusive-use wedding.

To start your wedding off in style, the hotel offers a chauffeur-driven collection service from London – or if you really want to splash out, we suggest making use of the helipad and arriving like the Beckhams.

The house is licensed for civil wedding ceremonies in four intimate rooms – the 18th- century Panel Room and the Great Hall, both decorated with antiques and ancestral paintings; the Dining Room, which has French windows opening on to the front lawns; and the Green Room with its intricate hand-painted murals and twinkling glass chandelier.

Or if you prefer, at the end of the mile-long drive in the thatched picture-postcard village of Gittisham is the pretty Church of St Michael.

After the ceremony, the hotel can arrange for a horse and carriage to take you and your new husband up to the house for a delicious sit-down or buffet reception. Combe can cater a wedding breakfast or evening reception for up to 100 guests in the house, or up to 150 if you add a marquee on the croquet lawn.

Once you and your guests have celebrated your wedding in style, spend your first night as Mr and Mrs Newly-wed in the Linen Suite, which occupies part of the former Victorian laundry and is furnished with a round copper bath – a romantic way to end your special day.

For more information and prices call Combe House on 01404 540400 or visit the website.
