WEDDING GOSSIP Girl In A White Dress 23 9748 views

Our resident bride and wedding expert, Cheryl, is back from her big day and floating on a wedding-induced cloud of loveliness, and will be talking weddings with you every week...

Manhattan or Mexico?

There aren’t many areas of the wedding planning where the groom’s allowed free reign over the proceedings (my poor beloved was given very precise tasks – and even then they were to be completed under my beady eye…), but traditionally the booking of the honeymoon is one area that’s all his.

Nowadays many brides simply stick the honeymoon planning on the end of the ever-growing to-do list, as they have a good idea of where they want to go and, more importantly, whether there’ll be a spa when they get there. But if you’re already up to your dark-circled eyes in table planning, dress fittings and diplomatic crisis meetings with your MIL over why she insists on wearing purple when it’ll clash with your beautiful crimson red maids, you’d be forgiven for letting your H2B take on this task.

So if you do entrust him with the ticket buying and hotel reserving, how do you make sure you still get the honeymoon of your dreams without him feeling as though you’re taking over? Well, obviously, drop hints. Big ones. Big obvious poke-you-in-the-eye hints. But remember: your beloved isn’t Columbo and, no matter how well he knows you, some men just aren’t good at piecing together clues. So make it clear if you’re expecting sun instead of skiing as you don’t want to spend the first few days of married life arguing when you find out you’re in for a week of mountain biking in the Peak District when you were hoping for some beach action in Bali.

But if you’re both a bit stuck for ideas on where to go, take a look at Honeymoons in Style, a glossy new book from husband and wife duo Jill and Carlo Nash that’s packed with their own impartial and independently written reviews of resorts and hotels. It has advice on destinations around the world, including when to go, how to get there and what to do once you’re there, as well as useful maps and personal honeymoon tips from their own experiences. So whether you prefer an action adventure or a blissed out beach break, this book has something for all newlyweds and is a great place to start your planning. And it could save you a few arguments, too…
