WEDDING GOSSIP Girl In A White Dress 8 13233 views

Like a glove
Our resident bride-to-be, Cheryl, shares the highs and lows of wedding planning in the run-up to her big day. This week she finds out whether she can still squeeze into the dress at her first fitting...

I can hardly contain my excitement this week, ladies, because I’ve just got back from my first dress fitting!

It’s been a good few months since I last saw The Dress in real life (apart from when I go on the website to have a look at it. Which is probably at least once a day. But that doesn’t count) so I was a little bit afraid that I might have gone off it. But, no, hurrah, I still love it!

And, more importantly, I can still fit into it. Big relief.

I’m sure I’m not alone in saying that I frequently experience slight weight fluctuations (these usually occur around Christmas time on account of my mum’s tiramisu, or at weekends on account of too much wine) but I can usually manage to rein it in a bit with a couple of trips to the gym (and less wine). But I’ve discovered there’s nothing like the threat of not being able to fit into a v expensive dress to make you put down the chocolate muffin and walk away, lady.

But I couldn’t help thinking, while parading up and down the shop floor and swishing my dress in an important swishy way, how it’ll all be over very soon (in 61 days to be exact!) and what will I have to talk about afterwards?

It’s not that I talk about the wedding all the time (some might disagree) but I certainly do think about it a lot. And I do make a lot of lists. With subheadings and categories and columns. But this is normal, yes?

So how will I fill my wedding-less thoughts once I’ve sent out the thank-you cards and packed away the dress and strange chintz teapot that wasn’t on the gift list but somehow made it into our house?

I was pondering about this to a married friend, who simply said calmly and wisely in a slow head-nodding way, “You’ll be thinking about how lovely it is to be married.”

And, of course, she’s right – that must be what marriage does to you…

NEXT WEEK: Cheryl learns to trust others with her wedding plans - but only just...
