BEAUTY Pure as Snow

Cheryl I'Anson - Wed 03 Dec 2008 1278 views - add your comment

Tær, meaning ‘pure’ in Icelandic, combines ancient wisdom with modern cosmetic science to create one of the most luscious beauty ranges we’ve seen for a while.

Bursting with active ingredients including potent Icelandic organic herbs, essential oils, vitamins and minerals, Tær’s sophisticated blends work to purify and nourish the skin and help protect against premature ageing.

Icelandic herbs are renowned for their potency and purity, thanks to the unpolluted air, mineral-rich volcanic soils, high altitudes, and crystal pure thermal waters, which means they’re packed with antioxidants, vitamins and minerals essential to encourage youthful skin and fight against the daily stresses of modern life.

Suitable for all skin types, including sensitive, the Silky Refining Scrub, £19.50 for 100ml, is a sumptuous, creamy scrub containing organic Icelandic yarrow and angelica to purify and detoxify, fine walnut dust to gently exfoliate and apricot and lime oils to uplift and brighten.
While Complete Cleanse, £24.50 for 100ml, is a hydrating, one-step cleanser, containing organic extracts of Icelandic yarrow, lemon balm, eucalyptus, and tea tree. Suits all skin types, including sensitive and combination.

The Active Firming Serum, £47 for 30ml, is great for brides-to-be as its antioxidants help to firm, brighten and protect the skin from the effects of stress. Containing mineral-rich algae extracts, organic Icelandic herbs and an exceptionally active blend of rosehip, lotus and geranium essential oils.

REAL WEDDING The Hills Are Alive...

Amanda Hinton - Tue 02 Dec 2008 3069 views - 5 comments

Lisa & Chris
30 August 2008

They Met Lisa and Chris first met over eleven years ago at school, where they were friends until Chris eventually persuaded Lisa to go out with him! The rest is history, and on their tenth anniversary, Chris proposed while they were in a boat on Lake Lugano in Switzerland. He gave Lisa a diamond necklace and then took her to Tiffany’s in Zurich to choose the ring.

Wedding Venue Lisa and Chris were living in Switzerland at the time, and decided that there couldn’t be a better place to get married. They chose the local English church in Vevey, with their reception held at Le Mirador Hotel - they had always loved the stunning views of the Alps and Lake Geneva from the hotel.
The Theme The couple decided on the theme of a summer wedding, with a simple colour scheme of aqua and ivory to fit in with the gorgeous scenery. They prepared for all weather conditions - personalised cream fans with their wedding date and names on and ivory umbrellas - both of which came in handy. They decorated the reception with candelabras of roses and foliage as table centres and chocolate truffle favours from Charbonnel et Walker in London.

What They Wore The bride looked stunning in a strapless ivory dress, with lace detail on the bodice and a fishtail skirt. She accessorized with Benjamin Adams shoes and a pearl and crystal tiara comb, with an ivory elbow-length veil. Lisa kept the jewellery simple with diamond stud earrings from Chris and her 10th anniversary diamond necklace.

The groom wore a grey suit with an ivory shirt and tie, all from Hugo Boss. Chris teamed it with brown shoes from Office, a brown belt and a brown leather watch, a wedding gift from Lisa. He also wore a buttonhole of a calla lily, to match Lisa’s bouquet.

The bride had three bridesmaids who wore aqua-coloured dresses from Kelsey Rose, with shoes and clutch bags dyed to match. Lisa also lhad two flower girls who wore ivory dresses with satin pumps.

The Cake The couple decided not to have a traditional fruitcake as they were having a five-course meal at the reception. They instead opted for an exciting chocolate and praline craquelin made by the pastry chef at the hotel, with fireworks on top and served with champagne.

The Flowers Lisa carried a simple, hand-tied bouquet of ivory calla lilies while the bridesmaids carried bouquets of cream roses. The florist also created smaller versions for the flower girls. The church was decorated with two enormous flower arrangements on stands, which were later transported to the hotel terrace for aperitifs.

First Dance The newly-married Mr & Mrs Jones appropriately danced to ‘Mr & Mrs Jones’ by Billy Paul. The music continued with classics from Abba and the Bee Gees followed by more current chart music for the younger generation.

A Moment To Remember Lisa loved it when she walked down the aisle and saw Chris’ face when he first turned around, as they couldn’t keep their eyes off each other! She also found it memorable when everyone went out onto the terrace after the speeches, and instead of fireworks, released lanterns into the evening sky.

Honeymoon The happy couple spent their first night in the Suite of Suites at the hotel, a duplex apartment with views of the lake and a Jacuzzi. They later jetted off for a luxurious three-week honeymoon touring the USA. They stopped off in San Francisco, Las Vegas with a helicopter trip to the Grand Canyon, followed by hiring a convertible Ford Mustang in Vancouver. They stayed in a log cabin on Vancouver Island with a whale watching trip, as well as visiting the Athabasca glacier in Calgary with a raft trip along the river in Banff!

Any Advice Lisa recommends to, ‘Relax and enjoy it! If you give yourself enough time, you can really personalise your wedding. It’s the little touches that can turn it from an ordinary wedding to an extraordinary wedding!’ Chris advises to spend time on your speech. 'Keep it light-hearted - and it’s a great opportunity to let your bride know just how special she is to you.’
