  • Rate your wives 11307 views

    Wedding Path Newswire

In the late 1930's George W. Crane, MD, PhD, (1901–95) of Northwestern University, developed a "Marital Rating Scale—Wife's Chart". The test was designed to give husbands a way of rating how good his wife was on a scale of 'very poor' to 'very superior'.

'Merits' and 'demerits' were assigned for different behaviours - for example if the wife "uses slang or profanity," they would get five demerits. Crane was serious about using his test as a scientific tool and even set up a matchmaking service, which claimed to of set up more than 5,000 marriages.

The popular online matchmaking services today use a similar system - you get to vote for attributes you like, or don't like, in a partner.  Of course the attributes have changes somewhat, and both males and females get a say.

I haven't yet found a similar system for 'rate your husband' - any of you ladies want to tell me what questions would be on that one?

  • Sugar wedding task 6672 views

    Wedding Path Newswire

I really liked the first two seasons of The Apprentice, but haven't really been following this season. I'm not sure if it is because the production team obviously scour the UK for some of the most irritating and useless contestants, or because people are blatantly kept in the show as they make 'good telly' (i.e. are irritating). I quite like watching Alan Sugar perched on his extra high chair in the boardroom (so he looks tall and powerful) - I do worry that one of these weeks he is going to fall off and sprain his ankle though.

I shall watch this week though as the task is to run a stall at a wedding fair and one of the contestants tries the aggressive sell approach. Upon failing to sell a b2b a cake Michael Sophoces says "You're going to pay £200 more for a traditional cake and it's going to look dull. It's a real shame; it's your bloody wedding!" He then turns to the camera and says: "These people are dum dums. They don't know what they're doing." Hehe, what a muppet.

BTW - have you ever noticed that when the person who is fired is wearing different clothes, or a buttoned up jacket, when they get into the taxi? If you look closely you can see the reflection of the taxi (in the windows behind it) and it stops after a few feet. 'What is the TV trickery' I hear you cry? Well they film all the 'fired taxi pulls away from the office' bits at once at the beginning of the season.

  • Bush wedding this weekend 11974 views

    Wedding Path Newswire

This Saturday is a big day for Crawford, Texas. Jenna Bush, 26, is to marry 29-year-old Henry Hager at the Bush family ranch. Evidently the place is full with Secret Service agents, roadblocks and surveillance cameras so no one can sneak in and shout 'yes' when the minister asks if anyone knows why this couple should not marry. Actually the Secret Service is probably there to guard President Bush to make sure he doesn't choke on a pretzel.

Crawford, next door to Waco, has fallen on hard times. Americans no longer flock to visit the Texan home of their president, pretty much because everyone hates him. President Bush has the lowest approval ratings since Nixon (just before he 'resigned') so could do with cheering up a bit, and maybe the weekend nuptials will do the trick. It could be worse George - you could have Gordon Brown's approval rating (the lowest since polling started).

First lady Laura Bush proved she could be just as eloquent as her husband when she said, "We're very thrilled, and, of course, Jenna is so happy, and Henry is very happy. And that makes their mother and dad really happy." So everyone is happy. Except George and Gordon - and Gordon isn't even invited.

The wedding details are shrouded in secrecy, but here is what we do know - 200 guests, the couple will marry at twighlight in front of a limestone altar, Jenna will wear an organza dress and fourteen friends will serve in the 'house party', wearing custom gowns of cocktail length in shades of Texas wildflowers. Twiglight/limestone/organza - all sounding a little 'Rivendell' from Lord of the Rings. Wonder who gets to be Sauron?

  • Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds engaged 7634 views

    Wedding Path Newswire

Scarlett Johansson, 23, and her actor boyfriend Ryan Reynolds, 31, are offically engaged according to Johansson's publicist. The couple have been dating since February 2007, just after Reynolds broke off his (4 year) engagement to singer Alanis Morissette. The couple met when Reynolds had a mutual friend arrange a dinner party so he could meet Johansson and are hinting that they will marry soon.

    So a quick recap...

Reynolds dropped Morissette and got together with Johansson who just split with Hartnett (Josh). The couple (that's Reynolds and Johansson, not Morissette and Hartnett - who aren't a couple as far as we know) will possibly marry at some point in the future and may or may not sell pictures of their wedding to a magazine for a gazillion dollars. A gazillion dollars at the current exchange rate is worth £54 which oddly enough is the combined ages of Johansson and Reynolds. All clear?

  • Mariah wedding rumours 11670 views

    Wedding Path Newswire

Rumour has is that Mariah Carey has had a 'quickie'. Ahah, minds out of the gutter - not a 'quickie, quickie', more of a 'quickie wedding'. The story is she married Nick Cannon (no relation to Cannon of Cannon and Ball we presume) in an impulsive ceremony on Wednesday. The New York Post claims that there wasn't even time for a prenup which spells d.i.s.a.s.t.e.r in celeb land.

There has been a lot of speculation that it is all a publicity campaign to take some of the spotlight away from Madonna's new album. Of course Madonna is infamous for her cheap publicity stunts - e.g. snogging Britney Spears, which come to think of it might of been the thing that sent Britney over the edge (after all Madonna is old enough to be her mum).

Anyway...back to Mariah - oh yeah, she got married. We think.
