  • A helium balloon and a 6,000 UKP ring 11152 views

    Wedding Path Newswire

A 28 year old London floor fitter, Lefkos Hajji, could do with a bit of a lift right now. The unlucky chap spent £6,000 on an engagement ring and hid it inside of a helium balloon. As he left the shop a gust of wind pulled the balloon out of his hands and he watched it sail away. Hajji spent two hours in his car trying to find the balloon, with no success.

Could things get any worse? - well yes. When he told girlfriend Leanne about it she was furious and is refusing to speak to Hajji until he gets another ring.

There have been a fair few comments online suggesting that if Leanne is quite so materialistic then perhaps she isn't the catch Hajii thinks she is. What do you think?

  • USB Wedding ring 6402 views

    Wedding Path Newswire

I read today about designer Jennifer Flume's plans to make a USB engagement ring. Currently at concept stage, the final ring design would have a USB Flash Drive hidden under a Swarovski Crystal.

The idea behind the ring is that it would allow you to transfer data (photos, word documents etc) from ring to ring with your friends/partner. Each ring also comes with a necklace hub that allows the connection of multiple USB wedding rings - great if you have multiple wives / husbands.

Personally I don't like the designs, and I am unsure about the concept - how long will it be before USB is obsolete?  I do think that we are going to see more hybrids between jewellery and technology though and I can think of several really useful ones. Imagine a ring that held your Oyster Card details (the swipe ticket for travel on London's underground)  - now that would save me countless headaches!

Geekness gone mad, or a great idea? - leave me a  comment and let us know.

  • Birthday suits at wedding 7052 views

    Wedding Path Newswire

Weddings can be enormously expensive but one way to save is to cut down on the clothing. According to the AANR more and more people are choosing to do exactly that - cutting down on their clothing.

Picture the scene... it's a sunny August day and 600 guests watch the bride walk down the aisle. Usually friends and familly would be thinking how amazing the bride looked in her beautiful gown, but not so for bride Pamela. No one remarked on Pamela's gown because she wasn't wearing one. H2b Lee waits for her at the alter, he is resplendent in a bow tie and top hat...and by that I mean just a bow tie and top hat.

Most of the guests are naked too, some wear hats and shawls and some just their birthday suits. Makes you wonder where the best man kept the ring.

So who are Pamela and Lee, and what is the AANR? Well, AANR stands for the American Association for Nude Recreation, where 50,000 members can now choose from over 270 clothes-free and clothing-optional clubs and resorts throughout the country. The AANR claim nude weddings are more popular than ever. Pamela and Lee, both in their 50s, are commited nudists.

Pamela says “We worked for many months to craft a ceremony that was very expressive of our thoughts and our beliefs... so expressive of who we are. It’s so natural, it’s so unpretentious.”

If you think Pamela and Lee are balmy you might want to consider that a nudist wedding in the U.S., which takes place outside, costs about £1,500 as opposed to an average wedding cosy of around £13,000.

Harmless eccentricity, or an insult to the sanctity of marriage? Leave a comment and let us know what you think.

  • Drew Barrymore to wed again? 7342 views

    Wedding Path Newswire

Will it be third time lucky for Drew Barrymore? After two previous marriages (to Welsh barman Jeremy Thomas and American comedian Tom Green) Barrymore has evidently been scouting out possible marriage locations in Mexico.

The '50 First Dates' star was whisked off to The Casa Magna Hotel, on Tulum Beach, by actor boyfriend Justin long to celebrate her 33rd birthday. The couple spend their time doing yoga, having massages and generally being pampered. Barrymore asked the retreat how much it would cost for a private wedding ceremony in the summer.

Barrymore has had her share of ups and downs, mainly stemming from her sudden rise to child stardom after ET. We wish her and Justin the best of luck.

  • Paris Hilton to marry? 10242 views

    Wedding Path Newswire

A couple of weeks ago I blogged about Paris Hilton's engagment rumours. To be fair, I was a little rude when I said she was "the girl famous for having rich parents and absolutely no discernable talents of her own". I would like to amend that as she does have a talent for self publicity.

Cast your minds back to December 2006, when Paris herself told us she was indeed planning to wed her Greek shipping heir beau Stavros Niarchos. She was going to have Britney Spears be her Maid of Honour. Well that never happened, which pleased Niarchos' parents as they thought Paris to be "tacky".

If we go back even further to 2005 Paris told us (about then boyfriend Paris Latsis) "We had an amazing summer together. Right now I’m finishing work and then we’ll do the wedding." Hmmm, that one never happened either.

So, the question is - will Paris really marry Benji Madden? Recently when asked what the ring on her engagement finger means she replied “It means what it means.”

Personally I hope they do marry, and then move far, far away so we don't have to hear any more about Paris - the girl who allegedly calls herself the "iconic blonde of the decade".
