FASHION Mothers, Set & Match 14543 views

Mothers of the bride often ask, “do my hat, bag and shoes have to match?" Not necessarily... Jacques Vert share some professional styling tips on dressing the part for the big day.
When you are shopping for the big day outfit, it is a good idea to co-ordinate colours as it brings your whole look together. If you don't like matching your bag to leather or suede shoes, opt for a beaded fabric bag that looks feminine and one you’ll probably use again for another occasion. Most importantly, make sure that you have a balance of co-ordinating colours and that the colours in your accessories balance well too, especially your hat.
For a less traditional ‘mother of the bride’ look, a floaty dress with a bolero looks smart and is a very fashionable look. Alternatively, a beaded sleeveless dress with shawl would work well as day to eveningwear.
To avoid getting chilly in the evening, you should look for an outfit with a fitted jacket. Some dresses have matching bolero jackets which look really stylish and work perfectly for the evening, alternatively you can use a cover-up like a pashmina or a crochet shawl.
For larger sizes, choose more structured pieces rather than flimsy fabrics. Conservative prints are more sophisticated than bold ones. A feather fascinator will lift your outfit and bring focus to your face, as will a pretty necklace and earrings. Keep your outfit co-ordinated and colours simple.
For a chic alternative to a wedding hat, feather fascinators on clips or headbands are a very stylish option and will really set off and complement that special hairstyle.
If the bride has entrusted you to keep her make up and bits and pieces for her on the day, keep items as small as possible and to a minimum. Use a travel sewing kit, they’re tiny and take up little space. Choose a structured clutch bag matching your outfit and ensure it has a detachable strap so it can go over your shoulder leaving your arms free for taking photos and holding your Champagne. -

FASHION Apprentice Bride 8201 views

WeddingPathers at the Birmingham NEC for the National Wedding Show earlier this year might have spotted a camera crew and some wannabe Apprentices.
Essential viewing tonight, Episode 8 of The Apprentice at 9pm on BBC1 goes to the National Wedding Show! With just half the candidates left standing, Alan Sugar is sending Alpha and Renaissance to the NEC Birmingham. The challenge is to sell wedding dresses! With just one day to research the market and stock their stand, it has to be less-than-easy.
Will the candidates be able to adapt their usual hard-sell techniques for this most emotional and personal of purchases? And how will the boys cope with selling such ‘girly’ products? The team who make the most money on the day of the show will win. Winner of
the first series, Tim Campbell knows how tough the process is, saying “the tasks in the show are really intense and nothing can be more intensive than dealing with someone’s special day. Even with a captive audience the candidates have to get it right first time.”If you miss tonight's episode, catch the repeat on Saturday 17th May at 10.40pm on BBC2. Or see the re-run on www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer.
