Shops, buyers and press all waited excitedly to find out who had won Dress of the Year in the Bridal Buyer Awards at Harrogate this March. Read more to find out....
A panel of bridal editors and experts made the final selection at the black tie Awards dinner on 9 March, but the deciding votes were cast by all you brides that went to the National Wedding Show, either in London or Birmingham, where the gowns were on display. The choice was hard, but the winning dress from the six finalists is a bit of a trend setter this season. Ireland (£840) by Maggie Sottero (0151 3399139) is a gossamer chiffon gown, that is right on trend
with its Grecian beauty look, featuring a billowing baby-doll silhouette and elaborate beaded band at the empire waistline, setting off the vertically ruched bodice. Perfect for weddings abroad, Grecian-style dresses are made from light, floaty fabrics that travel well and are deliciously cool and comfy to wear. Fingers crossed for a bit of sunshine in the UK this summer as you'll find lots of these dresses around. We love Ellis Bridals Grecian-inspired gown, Style 11106 (£700), with a strapless ruched bodice and a band of crystal and opal pearl beading falling into a sumptuous chiffon skirt with a soft flowing train.

FASHION A Little Shop We Know... 3018 views

Internet shopping is hugely fun when it comes to looking for wedding day accessories. But going to a wedding boutique has a special thrill and we think you'll love this little shop we know.
Based in Wimbledon Village, Luella's Boudoir is an Aladdin's den of everything gorgeous for the wedding day from veils and shrugs to stationery and gifts. Like many wedding shops, it was set up by a real bride. After her own wedding in 2005, Rachel Atwell created the shop she would have liked when she was planning her own big day. Rachel says, 'I had a really busy life and struggled to find the time to visit all the various shops and boutiques, especially when they all worked on an appointment-only basis. I also had difficulty finding dresses to suit all of my bridesmaids' different body shapes and wanted the styles to be fashionable. And I also wished for some help trying to find the right accessories to compliment my dress...' On 5th December 2006, Rachel opened Luella's Boudoir.
You'll find a fabulous range of jewellery, hair accessories, bridesmaids' dresses, lingerie and shoes as well as veils and must-have swimwear for the honeymoon. Working with some of the nicest bridal designers, you'll love the shoes by Emmy, Filippa Scott and Diane Hassall and the hair accessories and jewellery by Yarwood-White, Victoria Fergusson and Kirsten Goss. For brides that can't make it to Wimbledon, Luella's Boudoir has a great online boutique too. To find out more call 020 8879 7744 or go to luellasboudoir.co.uk.
We'd love to hear about a bridal boutique near you that has 'something special'. Send an email to amanda@weddingpath.com and tell us all about it! If your shop review is featured, we'll send you a Bourjois lip gloss.

REVIEW DW Feb 09 Show trends 3099 views

We spent a mouth-watering day, looking around the Designer Wedding Show at Battersea Park, London and were so inspired we thought we'd share some of the hot top trends.
Only the crème de la crème get to exhibit at the Designer Wedding Show, so while you are not likely to pick up a bargain, what you see is tipped to be top. So what did we see? Masses of vintage style, from lacy-looking cakes and ditsy china hire at The Utterly Sexy Cafe to traditional canvas marquees with wooden poles. In fact, marquees were in abundance. At LPM Bohemia - The Tent Company there were stunning Indian marquees with block-printed linings and
amazing Mongolian Yurts of all sizes, including a grand pavillion. At Beautiful World Tents, it was a bit more rustic with huge tipees on offer! Wedding dresses were following the vintage trend too with genuine vintage dresses at The Vintage Wedding Dress Company and lots of vintage design influences in the new collections at Stephanie Allin, Jenny Packham and Sassi Holford.
Amongst our favourite finds for big budget receptions were the customized photo booths, complete with 'beauty lighting' and 'wind machines' to make your guests look glam from Boothnation and icecream tricycles with over 170 flavours of delicious Italian icecream in waffle cones from Ideas Box.

FASHION Corset Queen 8288 views

For your catwalk moment as you walk up the aisle, a designer trained in historical stage costume is just the thing whether you want a modern silhouette or something with a vintage twist.
Anna-Maria D'Amato loves the theatrical drama of weddings and creates unique, bespoke gowns with waist-cinching corsets, stunning detailing and a strong emphasis on cut. Graduating in costume design, Anna-Maria has been creating dresses for theatre, film and brides for the last ten years. She has worked on the costumes for epics such as Phantom of the Opera, The Golden Age and Sweeney Todd. And with the hands on experience of a wardrobe mistress, the designer knows the importance of creating the head to toe look. As well as bespoke gowns, Anna-Maria creates bridal accessories to complement her gowns, lingerie for the big day and honeymoon and beautiful veils.
"What I love about my brides is that they are often just as passionate about costume and film as I am and want to re-create that magic on their wedding day. From the moment I opened my design studio, my first bride wanted a Marie-Antoinettte gown. Next came a Scarlet O'Hara Southern Belle and then a bride inspired by Princess Omedala from Star Wars. Over the years, I've created a feast of Oscar-winning gowns!"To find out more about Anna-Maria D'Amato gowns call 07958 641 470 or go to damatobridal.co.uk.
