GIFTS Cafe Chic 1968 views

Scandinavian design has it sussed when it comes to the ultimate cafetiere. Menu's latest coffee brewer is a must for stylish gift lists.
Most cafetieres are made of glass and stainless steel. Designer Pernille Vea explains that it is complicated to produce a well-functioning cafetiere in bone china. If the cafetiere principle is to work optimally, it requires a perfectly cylindrical pot, which hasn’t been possible with porcelain until now. Pernille Vea and Menu have changed alll that by designing a porcelain cafetiere in which it is possible to brew a perfect cup of coffee.
“I have selected delicate porcelain and functional silicone,
giving the cafetiere a modern design look with a spring green lid and a knob formed like a coffee bean. The silicone wrap on the base provides insulation, so that you can place the cafetiere on the table without a trivet,” says Pernille Vea.
This uber-cool cafetiere holds up to a litre and retails at £64.95. It also comes with a matchin teapot with a built-in infuser. To find out more, go to menu.as or panik-design.com. -

GIFTS Traditional Touch 1750 views

Displaying your wedding gifts at the reception is not as common as it once was, but if you are having a traditional wedding list - be prepared!
An old-fashioned gift list can be a real focal point at the reception if you plan ahead. Experts at E-weddinglist.co.uk, which specialises in offering a traditional list, have some top tips:
• Colour Clever. Having spent time co-ordinating your bridesmaids, groom, best man (and no doubt parents too), the theme for your wedding reception should include the wedding gift table. Make your gift table a focal
point, perhaps decorated with some of your theme flowers - and remember to ask the wedding photographer to add it to their shot list.
• This Way Please! Make a sign for your table with your names and a thank you. It will make it nice and easy for your guests to know where to place their gifts.• You Have Mail. Position a postbox near your gift table for guests to place gift cards and vouchers. It will keep them together safely. Some venues may already have a box that you can use.
• Hands Off! Check your venue has some kind of security in place or ensure that the gift table is in a secure area of the reception room.
• Home Time. Task someone with ensuring that the wedding gifts are delivered to your home after the wedding. Wedding etiquette states that it is usually the final duty for the best man together with the maid of honour. Again the venue may be able to store them overnight for collection the following day.

GIFTS Spend or Save? 1997 views

We love a survey, especially if it is about weddings. Want to know which wedding guests splash and which ones save on the wedding presents? Read more to find out...
Who spends the most on wedding presents in the UK? Research from Greenbee.com (financial and leisure services arm of John Lewis Partnership) has found that when it comes to buying the perfect wedding gift for the happy couple, the average spend per person across the UK is £48.40. Yet surprisingly one in 10 say they won’t spend a penny on the present.
The wedding gift spend findings reveal that those aged 65+ are the most generous wedding guests. They are willing to spend £63.77 on the gift for the bride- and groom-to-be. The same, however, cannot be said for 35-44 year olds, who are prepared to pay out just £26.86, with 14% admitting they won’t spend anything.
The North of England is the most generous region in Britain, with the average guest willing to pay £53.22 on the wedding present, around £15 more than Wales and the South West (£37.70) and almost £7 more than the Midlands (£46.45).
James Furse, Managing Director, greenbee.com said: “Despite the current economic climate wedding gifts are an expense most of us are unwilling to cut back on. However, it’s likely people are carefully considering what the happy couple really want whether it's a toaster or contributing to the honeymoon".
Region Average wedding gift spend
North England £53.22
Scotland £51.49
London & South East £50.55
Midlands £46.45
Wales & South West £37.70Wedding research was carried out by ICM Research on behalf of greenbee.com and surveyed 1,038 UK adults from 13 - 15 February 2009.
