If you already have everything you need for your love nest, you'll be looking at alternative gift options such as contributing to a charity or collecting for the honeymoon. But have you given a thought to your back garden? We've found a new gift list that could have your back yard looking like an arboretum.

Herefordshire plant nursery, Ornamental Tree Nurseries, nurture and grow a whopping 500 plus high quality ornamental fruit trees and shrubs and have just launched a new wedding list service. With an in-house wedding gift list co-ordinator, you'll get expert advice on what to choose. And once your list is drawn up, you'll get cute contact cards to insert in your wedding invitations. Delivery is nationwide, and you'll get a complete list of who bought what, along with personal messages, so that you can write your thank you letters.

Why not go for an espalier if you have room - fanned or trained into a shape, it makes a great feature for a garden. Or choose from one of the 10,000 container grown trees or one of the 50,000 field grown trees. For that 'happy day' feel-good factor, you might want to add the shrub Exochorda Maccrantha to your list - commonly known as The Bride. Or how about the small tree, Cornus Contraversa Variegata, otherwise called the Wedding Cake Tree?.

Wedding gifts come in all shapes and sizes. Toasters and kettles come in handy. But for the couple that has everything, the experts at e-weddinglist say take a look at the garden.

'There are so many different ideas that guests can contribute towards or buy for your garden,' says Penny at e-weddinglist 'and what a wonderful way to remember your wedding day!'

Let your guests know your garden plans. Perhaps you want a patio area. If you are not hands on or simply do not have the time, use a garden landscaping company. Your guests could donate towards the cost. 'To be safe,' says Penny, 'you would probably be best asking for cash donations on your wedding gift list for you to use once you have appointed a landscaper'. Or is there a particular plant or tree that you like? It is a lovely way to remember your guests, when each year the plant flowers again. Once your garden is complete you will want to sit and enjoy it. Guests could contribute to a patio table and chairs for al fresco dining or how about a statue or a water feature, or an outdoor heater so you can still enjoy the garden on cooler evenings.

Garden gift vouchers are an excellent flexible wedding gift list solution for couples who have already furnished their homes. Most garden centres offer national garden vouchers as well as their own, so you are not tied to a particular store. Go to thevouchergarden.co.uk and e-weddinglist.co.uk to find out more.

House of Fraser launched their gift registry service at over ten stores last Sepember. This month sees new stores being added. So what sets the service apart from all the others?

HofF fans will be delighted that they can now place their list with their favourite store. And the rest of us will surely be impressed by the personal touch. Once you are registered, your own personal concierge takes care of you and your list needs - right until your gifts are delivered. You'll also love the free pampering or beauty treatment and gift for you and your bridesmaid or mum. And even the groom gets a little something too. We're told that guests are treated with the utmost courtesy whether they want to purchase in person, online or over the phone. And if they splash out on a gift over £50, they'll get a £15 voucher to spend in store.

If House of Fraser doesn't have it, it's probably not worth having. The store has a great range of brand names from Vera Wang and Joseph Joseph to Dartington Crystal and Gaggia. It also has its own brand, Linea offering good design at affordable prices. Alternatively couples can ask for guests to contribute to a House of Fraser gift card, meaning they can put the money towards a major purchase or spend for their wedding.

Available in store, over the phone and online, go to houseoffraserweddinglist.co.uk for more detail.

  • GIFTS Can We Ask for Money? 6884 views

    Wedding Path Newswire

Asking for money as a wedding gift has become increasingly popular – but how do you avoid the possibility of offending guests?

Traditionally a wedding list helped couples set up a new home together with gifts such as kettles, toasters, bedding, towels, dinner services, cutlery and glassware. In some countries, it is the tradition to give money, but in the UK, we are still a bit sniffy about the idea.

Given that many UK couples getting married already have plenty of household items, it only makes sense to hold out the kitty - perhaps to go towards the honeymoon, a deposit on a house, furniture or a new kitchen. Nearlymarried.co.uk says, 'guests often pick gifts of money instead of more traditional wedding gifts.'

As not everyone feels comfortable giving money, include other types of gifts so that every guest is catered for. If you are saving towards the honeymoon, other suitable gifts could be luggage, a camera or camcorder, photo frames or photo albums.

Nearlymarried recommends letting guests know what the money will be spent on. Guests are generally happier with the idea that they are contributing towards a specific item. If you are saving for the honeymoon, money gifts can be assigned to parts of the honeymoon such as accommodation, flight upgrades, car hire etc.

So how do you put it in writing? We love WP bride, bev660's insert with her invitations - click on the forum post to read what she said...
