St Lucia is still voted number one as a honeymoon destination - we check out this paradise island in the sun.
Surrounded by the bluest of blue Caribbean waters, St Lucia is one of the most stunning islands in this tropical corner of paradise with its famous landmark Pitons, a pair of immense peaks that rise like towers from the water's edge. Whether you get a bird's eye view of the island from a zip wire above the rain forest or soak up the last rays of sun on a sunset cruise, St Lucia has something for everyone.
Amongst the best loved resorts on St Lucia, Windjammer Landing (windjammer-landing.com) is located on one of the most romantic beaches in the Caribbean. Hovering above a perfect crescent of sand, the resort has a seductive selection of suites and villas, all with stunning views across the deep blue water with huge decks and plunge pools. All villas have a fully equipped kitchen which means if you can resist the five gourmet restaurants you can
have a romantic night in. As well as the fine sand beach where you can enjoy watersports, the resort has swimming pools, a luxurious spa and the island's best 18-hole golf course right on the doorstep.
Best of all, Windjammer Landing is celebrating its 20 year anniversary with some fabulous packages and offers for newlyweds. CASTLE ROMANCE
Dromoland Castle, Newmarket-On-Fergus, County Clare, Ireland
One of the most famous baronial castles in Ireland, Dromoland is located on 365 acres of its own estate. A 16th century castle with 21st Century values, it is taking key steps to reduce its carbon footprint. Electricity is sourced from a supplier that has an environmental impact of 488.10g of CO2 emissions per kWh, this is 12% lower than the average for Ireland of 549.1g per kWh. Energy efficient lighting is used throughout the castle, equating to a saving of 44 tonnes of CO2 emissions. The hotel is replacing all of its refrigeration units in the
main castle kitchen with highly insulated units. And a wood chip burner has been installed to reduce the amount of oil used for heating and hot water. The use of carbon neutral woodchip instead of oil will reduce their carbon footprint by approximately 500 tones per annum.
Enjoy two nights accommodation in a Deluxe Bedroom with full Irish breakfast on both mornings including dinner for two on one evening of your choice in the Earl of Thomond Restaurant. To find out more or make a booking log onto Preferredhotels.com.

HONEMOON Essential Tips 3451 views

Erik Haugen from luxury travel specialists, The Kiwi Collection, has some practical tips for WP honeymooners.
WHERE TO GO
As many honeymooners are looking for somewhere remote and unique, I would recommend that they start by looking for smaller properties with less than 60 rooms. Avoid mainstream brands and look for more independent hotels. These can be harder to find but there are some amazing ones around - hunt out magazines, books, websites.
SEARCH ONLINE
Select an online resource that shows the direct contact details to the hotels/resorts as this gives you the possibility to make direct contact with the hotel and ask relevant questions to the people on the ground (at the hotel/resorts) who can really answer the questions.
WHO TO TRUST
Don’t trust the star rating – all countries have their own! Online travel sites can also quite biased so I would recommend looking at the hotel’s website for media coverage. Find out what independent publications had to say about the resort.
SEEING IS BELIEVING
Look for specific details in the hotels' images online such as the pool furniture – if it’s plastic, chances are the hotel might not have the attention to detail you are after.
THE PRICE IS RIGHT
Watch out for internet specials – if a price is too good to be true, there is probably a reason such as it is for travel during the stormy season. When you do come to book, make sure you ask for the ‘Best Available Rate’. This is an industry term that most hotels use and may give you a better price than the one listed.
SPECIAL TREATMENT
Don’t be afraid to ask! It’s your honeymoon after all! Call the hotel and ask to speak to the director of sales. Sometimes they can do wonders if you mention you’re on your honeymoon. Upgrades, champagne on arrival, romantic dinners…if you don’t ask you don’t get.
KNOW THE LINGO
A room advertised as ‘ocean view’ may have a view only if you stick your head out of the window. Look for ‘ocean front’ instead. Similarly ‘superior’ or ‘executive’ rooms don’t always mean the best. Always ask for the size of the room for comparison. For more information or to find more stunning honeymoon hotels, visit www.kiwicollection.com

HONEYMOON Your Guide 17399 views
Planning your honeymoon is one of the most exciting aspects of your wedding planning, but if you are wondering where to start, WP has some top tips...
Your Dream... If your budget will stretch to it, take time to consider what your dream honeymoon consists of (as if you
needed prompting!). This might sound obvious, but many people book a honeymoon that is not right for them. The dream will be different for everyone, and may be quite different to the generally accepted idea of what makes a good holiday. For some it’s a lazy fortnight on a remote island; for others, it’s a trip to one of Europe’s romantic capitals, or a once-in-a-lifetime safari. The important thing is that you and your partner agree on the destination and type of break. Once you have some ideas, research a list of potential destinations.Romantic Treats... Most people’s budget will not stretch to their idea of the perfect honeymoon, but whether you’re off on the exotic trip of a lifetime or are spending time closer to home, you can make your honeymoon the ultimate romantic treat. Candle-lit dinners, your favourite music or a massage may sound like clichés but don’t knock them till you’ve tried them! Above all, this is the chance for you and your partner to unwind from the hectic build-up to your wedding, and to remind yourselves why you got married in the first place. You can do this regardless of your surroundings.
Travel Tips...Travelling off-peak is a great way to save money and avoid crowds but there is often an underlying reason for the attractive prices. Find out if shops, services and attractions are closed at particular times of year, or if there’s a risk of your chosen destination being extremely wet or windy. Package holidays or all-inclusive resorts are a popular choice for honeymooners because they’re often good value and save worrying about added extras. Always examine the small print of any package to be sure you know what it does and doesn’t include. Delayed flights, missing luggage, pricey air fares, damage to the environment… Could this combination of factors lead you to ditch the thought of flying and stay closer to home? You could use the money you’ve saved to reserve a room at a top-notch local hotel.
Red tape... If you do decide to travel abroad, make sure your passport is in order. If it’s due to expire in less than a year, check if you need to update it, as some countries will not let you in unless there is a certain amount of time left on it. Credit cards are convenient and offer peace of mind in case of an emergency. Check your credit limit before you leave, and consider asking bank to temporarily extend your credit limit if you think it might be necessary. Don’t forget travel insurance. However unpleasant it is to think about, you never know when illness or an accident might strike. If you’re off to tropical climes, make sure you have the relevant immunisation jabs before you leave. Visit your GP or vaccination centre at least 6 weeks before you plan to travel.
Reality check... Whatever type of honeymoon you opt for, maintaining a sense of perspective will stand you in good stead. Sky-high expectations leave you open to disappointment, so it’s far healthier to accept in advance that no holiday is likely to go without its hiccups. Appreciate the positive aspects of the situation you’re in, and take pleasure in each other’s company. After all, that’s what you’re supposed to be celebrating!
