Green weddings are tipped to be hot this summer with more couples planning an eco-friendly celebration than ever before - and that includes the honeymoon.

Ethical travel company responsibletravel.com, originally set up with funding by Dame Anita Roddick, is putting eco honeymoons on wedding wish lists with the launch of its new gift list service. Wedding guests can contribute to an eco honeymoon, whether the couple want to stay at a Masai-owned luxury safari camp or go to a secluded beach in Turkey and help protect the local sea turtles.

Is the honeymoon upgrade a thing of the past? Check-in staff are more rigorous than ever before, but a smart set of luggage just might help.

Confetti falling out of your passport and 'Just Married' luggage tags are no guarantee. But to be in with a chance, you want to be looking like the kind of newly-weds the airline would like to have rubbing shoulders with their Business or First Class passengers. Investing in smart luggage is a cool move - and it needn't cost the earth.

We love the new range designed by Laurence Llewellyn-Bowen for Matalan. Check out these fab burgundy suitcases with a faux leather finish and black lining. The range includes a suit holder (£40), carry-all (£55) and different size cases (starting from £40).

Matalan's own range of luggage this season comes in stunning white - perfect for honeymooners - with a quited finish and cute heart detail. All on wheels, the cases come in three sizes: £30 for small, £40 for medium and £50 for large.

We talk to online travel experts, Key2Holidays about honeymoon trends for 2009. Anyone going on a 'dressmoon', country collecting or opting for a fly-drive adventure?

According to Key2Holidays, we have three big trends in store for the year ahead.

    1) “Dressmoons”
Inspired by celebrity brides such as Katie Holmes and Liz Hurley who headed to Italy for their wedding dresses, Key2holidays predicts that more brides-to-be will travel abroad to find their dream dress on breaks identified as “dressmoons”. Italy, considered by many to be the spiritual home of fashion, boasts one of the most spectacular selections of wedding dresses in the world.
A three-night break at the elegant 4* Duke Hotel in the centre of Rome is available from £140 per person, valid for travel between 3 January and 15 March 2009 and 17 July and 7 September 2009. Travel during these dates includes one night free. Personal shopping service for your wedding dress is available from £250.

    2) Fly-drive honeymoons
Key2holidays has seen a 50% growth in travellers choosing fly-drive holidays and this trend is expected to cross over to the honeymoon market in 2009 as couples increasingly seek the freedom of the open road for their trip of a lifetime. For the ultimate luxury, opt for a 5* fly-drive from Cape Town, following the Garden Route and finishing at the 5* Sanbona Wildlife Reserve for your chance to spot the ‘Big 5’.
A 12-night honeymoon in South Africa is from £1965 per person including luxury accommodation, mid-sized car hire for duration with insurance and return scheduled flights.

    3) Country-collecting honeymoons
“Country collecting” multi-centre holidays, which saw a massive rise in 2008, will remain a strong trend in 2009. Well-travelled Brits have become more adventurous, however the beach remains an important component with couples choosing to combine “chill out” beach time with a contrasting experience and destination offering unknown “off the beaten track” adventure, culture or city. Traditionally, Indian Ocean destinations have been amongst the most popular, Maldives or Mauritius & Dubai or Sri Lanka & the Maldives are top choices with Cuba & the Cayman Islands as one of the new additions.
An 11-night getaway combining Havana with the tranquil paradise of the Cayman Islands is available from £1,519 per person for travel between 1 September and 30 October 2009. The honeymoon includes four nights in Cuba at the 4*Telegrafo Hotel which boasts one of the best bars in Havana, followed by seven nights in an ocean-view suite at the Grand Cayman Beach Suites, situated on the spectacular Seven Mile Beach; flights with Virgin Atlantic and Cayman Airlines via Havana, and all transfers.
