REAL WEDDING The Hills Are Alive... 1278 views

Lisa & Chris
30 August 2008
They Met Lisa and Chris first met over eleven years ago at school, where they were friends until Chris eventually persuaded Lisa to go out with him! The rest is history, and on their tenth anniversary, Chris proposed while they were in a boat on Lake Lugano in Switzerland. He gave Lisa a diamond necklace and then took her to Tiffany’s in Zurich to choose the ring.
Wedding Venue Lisa and Chris were living in Switzerland at the time, and decided that there couldn’t be a better place to get married. They chose the local English church in Vevey, with their reception held at Le Mirador Hotel - they had always loved the stunning views of the Alps and Lake Geneva from the hotel.
The Theme The couple decided on the theme of a summer wedding, with a simple colour scheme of aqua and ivory to fit in with the gorgeous scenery. They prepared for all weather conditions - personalised cream fans with their wedding date and names on and ivory umbrellas - both of which came in handy. They decorated the reception with candelabras of roses and foliage as table centres and favours of chocolate truffles from Charbonnel et Walker in London.
What They Wore The bride looked stunning in a strapless ivory dress, with lace detail on the bodice and a fishtail skirt. She accessorized with Benjamin Adams shoes and a pearl and crystal tiara comb, with an ivory elbow-length veil. Lisa kept the jewellery simple with diamond stud earrings from Chris and her 10th anniversary diamond necklace.
The groom wore a grey suit with an ivory shirt and tie, all from Hugo Boss. Chris teamed it with brown shoes from Office, a brown belt and a brown leather watch, a wedding gift from Lisa. He also wore a buttonhole of a calla lily, to match Lisa’s bouquet.
The bride had three bridesmaids who wore aqua-coloured dresses from Kelsey Rose, with shoes and clutch bags dyed to match. Lisa also l
had two flower girls who wore ivory dresses with satin pumps.
The Cake The couple decided not to have a traditional fruitcake as they were having a five-course meal at the reception. They instead opted for an exciting chocolate and praline craquelin made by the pastry chef at the hotel, with fireworks on top and served with champagne.
The Flowers Lisa carried a simple, hand-tied bouquet of ivory calla lilies while the bridesmaids carryiedlbouquets of cream roses. The florist also created smaller versions of these for the flower girls. The church was decorated with two enormous flower arrangements on stands, which were later transported to the hotel terrace for aperitifs.
First Dance The newly-married Mr & Mrs Jones appropriately danced to ‘Mr & Mrs Jones’ by Billy Paul. The music continued with classics from Abba and the Bee Gees followed by more current chart music for the younger generation.
A Moment To Remember Lisa loved it when she walked down the aisle and saw Chris’ face when he first turned around, as they couldn’t keep their eyes off each other! She also found it memorable when everyone went out onto the terrace after the speeches, and instead of fireworks, released lanterns into the evening sky.
Honeymoon The happy couple spent their first night in the Suite of Suites at the hotel, a duplex apartment with views of the lake and a Jacuzzi. They later jetted off for a luxurious three-week honeymoon touring the USA. They stopped off in
San Francisco, Las Vegas with a helicopter trip to the Grand Canyon, followed by hiring a convertible Ford Mustang in Vancouver. They stayed in a log cabin on Vancouver Island with a whale watching trip, as well as visiting the Athabasca glacier in Calgary with a raft trip along the river in Banff!
Any Advice Lisa recommends to, ‘Relax and enjoy it! If you give yourself enough time, you can really personalise your wedding. It’s the little touches that can turn it from an ordinary wedding to an extraordinary wedding!’ Chris advises to spend time on your speech. 'Keep it light-hearted - and it’s a great opportunity to let your bride know just how special she is to you.’

Ruth & Colin
16 February 2008
They Met Ruth and Colin first set eyes on each other at university - Ruth was the first girl that Colin talked to! Love bloomed and one birthday, after a day of kitesurfing lessons, they took a stroll along the beach and Colin popped the question. Meanwhile, Colin’s mum had arranged for an overnight bag to be delivered to a nearby hotel for a surprise night away as well as a big celebration party the next day with family.
Wedding Venue The couple began looking for venues a year before the wedding, looking on the internet and driving around the New Forest. Finally, they fell in love with The Haven Hotel in Poole. It fitted all of their criteria as well as it having beautiful beach views, a reception room with an open fire and a piano - and a reputation for good food.
The Theme The couple chose a theme of roses with a colour scheme of chocolate brown and gold for their big day. The theme was kept throughout the day, with the reception tables decorated with dried rose petals (from Colin’s grandmother’s garden in San Francisco), as well as a single white rose with gold sprayed beargrass as a table centre, and tea lights. The top table was decorated with
silver mirrored vases with red roses as the table centres. The tables were named after places special to the couple and their family. And as a special touch, guests took a Polaroid photo of themselves with a message to stick into a keepsake book.
What They Wore Ruth looked gorgeous in a strapless champagne-coloured gown with diamante and pearl detailing and a rose detail at the hip, keeping with the theme. The bride accessorized with ivory satin shoes from Rainbow as well as a floor length, champagne-gold veil and an ivory rose clip in her hair, with a gold ribbon as a tiara. The final touches were pearl jewellery borrowed from a friend.
The groom wore black tails, a cream waistcoat with gold detailing and a mocha-coloured cravat.
The bride had two bridesmaids who wore floor length, chocolate brown taffeta dresses teamed with champagne coloured fur shrugs from Luella’s Boudoir in London. The
best men and ushers wore black tails with cream waistcoats and gold cravats.
The Cake Colin’s family made wedding cupcakes as the main cake, with moist and gooey chocolate and almond cake topped with mascarpone icing and mini sugar roses.
The Flowers Ruth carried a bouquet of cream roses with eucalyptus foliage tied with a VV Rouleaux ribbon to match her wedding dress. The bridesmaids carried smaller versions of the bouquet tied with chocolate brown ribbon. The church and reception were decorated with cream roses along with green foliage at the altar. All the flowers were arranged by a clever friend.
First Dance The couple danced for the first time to ‘Sir Duke’ by Stevie Wonder with a simple, choreographed dance after taking lessons. The
music continued into the evening with light jazz for the wedding breakfast followed by a DJ.
A Moment To Remember Ruth’s most memorable moment was when she walked down the aisle and saw all of her friends and family in the church, as well as when she and Colin had photos taken on the beach.
Honeymoon After spending the night at the Honeymoon suite in the hotel, the newlyweds jetted off for a mini honeymoon to the spa town of Baden-Baden in Germany. Later, they saved up for a three week summer road trip around the USA and Canada.
Any Advice Ruth suggests, ‘Delegate tasks at the beginning to family and friends’ as well as ‘Don’t get too obsessive over tiny details as it may
ruin your day and the build-up to the wedding.’ Whilst Colin advises, ‘Write your speech in advance of the day before!’

Sharon & David
16 August 2008
They Met Sharon and David first met in a nightclub, through mutual friends and were amazed that they hadn’t met before with so many friends in common! Right from the start, it was true love and David proved to be the ultimate romantic. One weekend he whisked Sharon away on a surprise trip to Pisa and proposed over a candlelit dinner near the Leaning Tower itself.
Wedding Venue David and Sharon had no hesitation over choosing a venue. Sharon had always dreamed of marrying in Garfield House in Stepps, Glasgow and they both loved the venue's intimate atmosphere. It also had a great reputation - the couple had only ever heard good things about it. And as an added bonus, the resident toastmaster was at their disposal for the big day, making sure that everything ran smoothly.
The Theme At first the couple were undecided on a theme, but as the plans progressed, Sharon's favourite flower, daisies, started becoming a regular feature. Soft purple and ivory set the colour scheme with the table stationery being decorated with purple gerbera daisies on ivory card. The tables at the reception were also decorated with scattered crystals and pretty candle holders as well as favours for the adults and party packs for the children. To round of the theme, there were plenty of traditional
Scottish touches, including kilts, as well as a piper and ceilidh band for the evening.
What They Wore Sharon wore a strapless dress with ruching on the beaded bodice, from Signature Brides in Glasgow. She modified the dress a little, adding a longer train and a corset back, giving it a unique couture look. The bride accessorized with a crystal tiara from Amanda Wyatt, adding a touch of sparkle, and hand-made pearl and crystal jewellery from Jewelllery by Jo as well as shoes from Bhs.
The groom wore his own kilt, of Balfour tartan, and hired the rest of the traditional Scottish wear from Kiltpin in Falkirk. He teamed it with a blue ruche tie with the other men in the wedding party wearing Heart of Scotland tartan with purple ruche ties. They all wore thistles as buttonholes, keeping in with the Scottish theme.
The bride had two bridesmaids, her cousins, who wore Victorian lilac two-piece dresses by Dessy along with co-ordinating crystal and pearl jewellery, designed by Jewellery by Jo. Sharon also had two flower girls who wore ivory beaded dresses with ballet pumps from John Lewis and tiaras from Debenhams.
The Cake The couple had a two-tiered cake, decorated with ivory icing and stunning icing flowers draped down the side. The cake was made by Goodfellow and Steven in Broughty Ferry and was a present from Sharon’s aunt. The couple didn’t see it until the day and were absolutely thrilled!
The Flowers The bride carried a traditional bouquet of white gerbera daisies with bear grass and crystals with the bridesmaids carrying hand-tied white gerberas with bear grass and purple organza. The flowers used to decorate the ceremony followed suit as did the table centres at the reception with the addition of greenery and thistles,
keeping a Scottish touch.
First Dance The newly married couple danced to ‘The Air That I Breathe’ by the Hollies followed by a father and daughter dance to ‘My Girl’ by The Temptations. The music continued into the evening with traditional Scottish music as well as a disco later on.
A Moment To Remember Sharon found the most memorable part of the day was the intimate ceremony and seeing all of the people they loved there as well as walking down the aisle and seeing David.
Sharon also loved the speeches from David, her father and the best men!
Honeymoon After the couple spent their first night in the Honeymoon Suite at the hotel, they went on an adventurous honeymoon, spending four nights in LA and then toured America. They managed to visit the Grand Canyon, Death Valley, Yosemite, San Francisco as well as Universal Studios, taking in a show in Las Vegas as well as visiting Alcatraz and the Hoover Dam. Not only that but one of the bridesmaids and workmate had already emailed all of the hotels they were staying in, getting room upgrades in some and
special treats in others!
Any Advice Sharon advises to, ‘Shop around for the best value for money. Always remember that it’s your day and don’t feel under pressure to do things you don’t want to.’ Sharon also comments, ‘Use the WeddingPath forums and pick up lots of tips, especially from those just married as these are the people in the know!’ Whilst David says, ‘Allow yourself plenty of time in the morning before the wedding and don’t worry about your speech – it’s easier than you think!’

REAL WEDDING Day in the Park 12649 views

Rose & William
18 September 2008
They Met Rose and William met at the youth club in their home town and six years later, William proposed. With a ring flown from the other side of the world, William popped the question over a romantic picnic in their Camden flat garden.
Wedding Venue The couple chose their local church, St Mary’s in Bryanstone Square, as they both knew there could be no better place! They decided to hold their reception in nearby Regent’s Park - they wanted a small and relaxed affair and had many great memories of walks through the park - and booked The Garden Café for the reception!
The Theme London and preppy school days set the theme with all the wedding party wearing school-style ties and badges! The stationery at the reception featured hand drawn views of the landscape around the Thames while the tables were named after London landmarks. Adding a special touch, the couple also hired an old-fashioned route master bus! As the colour scheme, Rose and William chose a colour navy blue, dusky pink and cream with everything tying in, including the drinks with pink champagne and blueberries! The couple also wanted a very natural feel to tie in with the surroundings of the park, and decorated the tables with flowers and natural light candles.
What They Wore The bride looked stunning in an ivory, lace-detailied gown with a flowing skirt, which she bought in a charity shop, personalised by her mother with a large dusty pink bow at the back, matching her pink shoes! The bride also wore her cousin’s veil as well as a small tiara and two pearl and crystal hairpins. The bride’s
jewellery came as a gift from William on the morning of her wedding, as their wedding day was also their seventh anniversary.
The groom wore a hand-made, tailored, navy three-piece suit, made by a travelling tailor. He teamed it with a dusky pink cravat as well as cufflinks from Rose as his anniversary gift which were engraved with their joint monogram and the date.
The bride had two bridesmaids who wore navy dresses with matching dusky pink sashes and shoes as well as pearl bracelets as gifts from the couple. The bride also had a flower girl who wore a pink gown decorated with sequins. The men in the wedding party wore their own navy suits with matching pink and blue striped ties, schoolboy-style, along with prefect-style badges.
The Cake The three-tiered chocolate cake, with white chocolate icing, decorated with navy ribbon and topped with scattered pink rose petals was made by their sister-in-law.
The Flowers The bride carried a beautiful bouquet of dusky pink flowers including ‘Faith’ roses, tied with ivory ribbon. The table centres in the reception were decorated with antique cake stands filled with dusky pink flowers.
First Dance The happy couple danced to ‘Everything’ by Michael Buble followed by music for the evening by their university jazz band.
A Moment To Remember Rose’s most memorable moment was when they were the last two onto the bus, taking everyone to the reception, as well as holding onto her new husband in the sunshine, describing it as ‘utter bliss’.
Honeymoon The couple spent their first night at The Dorset Square Hotel in London, after being waved off with sparklers by their guests. The newlyweds then spent five days in the Cotswolds followed by five days in the mountains of Norway, enjoying the peace and quiet to reflect and remember the big day.
Any Advice Rose advises, ‘Things will not going according to your initial plan, it might rain and the shop might not do ‘your shade’ of pink – but none of this will matter on the day – try to be flexible and focus on what is important, you’re getting married to your fiancé!’ Whilst William suggests, ‘The morning of the wedding, I went with my best man to Sharp’s Barbers to have a traditional close shave- it made me feel fresh and ready for the big day.’

Allanah & Richard, 30th August 2008
richardandallanah.weddingpath.com

THEY MET The couple met in 2005 when they were both working weekends at Glyn Webb. They didn’t really speak to each other much until Richard asked to see Allanah's tattoo! They also went to the same college so were soon spending every day together. Just over two years later, Richard lit candles leading from the front door to the dining table. He had cooked a meal and went down on one knee with the ring. Allanah says, 'I cried and said yes.'
WEDDING VENUE They wanted to get married in a registry office. Leeds Town Hall was the obvious choice for them. They loved the grand architecture and it was well within their budget. And for the reception, they booked the nearyby John Smeaton Leisure Centre.
THE THEME The colour scheme was pink, ivory and silver. 'We didn’t have a theme as such but wanted to keep it fun and child-like as we are both big kids', says Allanah. There were lots of balloons, sweets, ice cream and even a bubble machine. The favours were pink and silver heart shape smarties in pink organza bags. Each guest also had bubbles in a
champagne shape bottle. And each table had a silver bucket filled with Haribo.
WHAT THEY WORE Allanah wore a satin wedding dress, called Lily by Nicholas Millington which she spotted in the Littlewoods catalogue. Her shoes were ivory with beaded detail and a kitten heel. And her tiara was an alice band style with pearls and diamante. She also wore a pearl necklace, earrings and bracelet all matching the headpiece. Richard wore a three-piece grey suit from Next with black shoes, a pink and cream tie, white and grey shirt and a pink rose button hole. Allanah's two bridesmaids wore 50’s style dusky pink, knee length tea dresses with matching
shoes and bags.
THE CAKE Richard's mother made the white-iced wedding cake with two stacked tiers. It was decorated in pink and white iced flowers with a bride and groom wedding topper as the finishing touch.
THE FLOWERS Allanah chose a simple but stunning bouquet of pink and cream roses tied together with an ivory ribbon. Each rose was finished with a pearl.
FIRST DANCE The couple danced for the first time as Mr and Mrs to Aerosmith's 'I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing'. The dancing and reception celebrations went on until midnight when the newlyweds left for Malmaison Leeds where
they spent the first night in The Depot Suite.
MOMENT TO REMEMBER The couple took time out from the wedding celebrations with a quiet moment alone in the park where they enjoyed eating '99ers'. 'The day was perfect', says Allanah
HONEYMOON The newlyweds spent a week in Morocco, staying in Marrakesh. They visited the Cascades of Ouzoud, Gardens of Marrakesh, local markets and also quad biking in the desert.
ANY ADVICE? Allanah says, 'Try not to let others interfere too much with your wedding day plans. On the day, if you and your husband are happy, then everyone else will be too.' Allanah adds, 'I could not have done without the girls on WP. They have always been there to give advise and offer support.'. Richard
recommends leaving the speech to the last minute, 'it really does work' he says, 'and get some jazzy socks.'
