Ruth & Jonathan
4 April 2009
They Met Ruth and Jonathan first met at university in Liverpool. Ruth spent her second and third years abroad, but when she returned, Jonathan was still there. It was on a shopping trip to York in 2003 that they realised they were more than just friends. In February 2007, Jonathan got down on bended knee - and it was champagne for the rest of the evening.
Wedding Venue As soon as they were engaged the couple started looking for a place to wed. They trawled all the venues in South Yorkshire, searching for somewhere 'a bit different'. Finally, they settled on Doncaster Racecourse where they fell in love with the ceremony room with its glass domed roof.
The Theme
With the big day booked for Spring, the couple wanted to keep their wedding simple and seasonal. They chose sage green and picked up on the dusky pink on their invitations and Ruth's bouquet to set the colour scheme. It went perfectly with the modern elegance of the racecourse setting with crisp white linen on the tables and coloured balloons as table centres. As favours they gave the adults lottery tickets along with little pouches of mint imperials. Instead of having a guest book, there was a slip of paper inside each place card for guests to write a message which was put in the couple's post box to be made later into a keepsake album with photos.
What They Wore Ruth wore a strapless gown by Essense made in crushed taffeta with a sweetheart neckline that sparkled with Swarovski cystals and a hip corsage sweeping the skirt to one side with a layer of irridescent tulle underneath. She sewed Swarovski crystals to the edge of her fingertip veil to match the beading on her dress and made her own tiara from crystals and pearls that had been used in the design of her teardrop necklace and earrings by a company she found on the internet.
Wanting a fresh modern look, they decided against hiring traditional tails and found smart suits in ASDA - which meant the guys could all
get to keep their wedding day attire - the only problem was finding them in eight different sizes! All the men had shirts, sage green ties and hankies from My Tuxedo with the groom in a sage green waiscoat to match.Ruth's three bridesmaids, including her older sister who was chief bridesmaid, kept with the contemporary style wearing blue striped prom dresses from Debut at Debenhams with matching blue pashminas and silver sandals. The little flower girl, the ushers daughter, wore an ivory dress from TK Maxx which Ruth sewed with blue ribbon to match the bridesmaids.
The Cake The three tiered square cake had a layer of traditional fruit, a layer of chocolate (the bride's favourite) and a layer of toffee sponge (the groom's favourite). It was decorated with pink ribbon to tie in with the colour theme with the focal point being the cake topper. As a keen cricketer and Rotherham United fan, the groom was depicted in a Rotherham shirt with cricket pads while the bride showed her support for Rovers with a Blackburn shirt and the skirt of her wedding dress. To complete it, there were also two figures of their pet cats.
The Flowers Ruth chose pink roses for her bouquet, as they were the first flowers that Jonathan had ever bought her, and mixed them with ivory roses, loops of bear grass and diamante centres. Using faux flowers, they had a similar mix for the table arrangement while the bridesmaids carried smaller versions of Ruth's bouquet but with just ivory roses.
First Dance The newlyweds danced to an album track called With Me by Logan, a band that they'd first seen as the support act at a concert they been to. It was perfect, as it was special to the couple and also something different and unfamiliar to their guests.
A Moment To Remember Ruth and Jonathan had a great time during the photography shoot going around the racecourse together - including running down the track and going inside the stables!
Honeymoon Ruth and Jonathan wanted to go somewhere they'd never been before so decided on Kenya with a three-day safari followed by nine days at a beach hotel in Mombassa - it lived up their trip of a lifetime expectations.
Any Advice? Ruth recommends allowing extra time to get ready on the morning of the wedding. 'I was fifteen minutes late arriving at the ceremony' says Ruth, 'so maybe I should have been a little bit more organised.' The groom recommends a hearty breakfast then arriving at the venue extra early to iron out any possible glitches.

Claire & Adam
30 May 2009
They Met Adam and Claire first met through 'venture scouts' - and love soon blossomed. It was during a wild camping trip in the beautiful Lake District that Adam popped the question to Claire!
Wedding Venue The couple immediately started trawling through the internet to find the venue for them and came across Dauntsey’s Manor House in West Lavington. They loved the beautiful building as well as its handy proximity to the church and low cost. The building also had significance as it was where Claire’s father went to school.
The Theme Claire and Adam didn’t choose a specific theme and focused on people enjoying themselves instead. The colour scheme was kept neutral with the main colours of white, silver and green and accents of pink. Pink grosgrain ribbon held the colours together, used from buttonholes to napkins!
What They Wore The bride looked elegant in a sleek and strapless full-length gown with a silk organza sash around the waist, made by Catherine Miller. She accessorized with shoes by Emmy and jewellery made by Kirsten Goss, which incorporated some of her grandmother’s jewellery.
The groom wore a morning suit with a dove grey waistcoat, hired from Austin Reed. A touch of pink was added with a bright pink tie, with their names and wedding date embroidered on the back. Adam wore a buttonhole of sprigs of rosemary tied with pink grosgrain ribbon.
Claire had three bridesmaids who wore classic, pink silk dresses also made by Catherine Miller, whilst the five ushers wore the same as the groom.
The Cake The couple chose two cakes for their wedding, which consisted of three square tiers directly on top of each other, decorated with pink grosgrain ribbon on each layer. The other cake was the same, but a chocolate version for the groom, all made by a family friend.
The Flowers The bride and bridesmaids carried simple bouquets of cream freesias. The church and reception were decorated with hydrangeas in glass cube vases along with pedestals with hydrangeas, eucalyptus and peony, all fitting with their white and green colour
scheme. Finally the flowers were given the final touch with cream church candles around the reception and rosemary plants as table centres!
First Dance The newlyweds danced to ‘Brown Eyed Girl’ by Van Morrison, followed by music from their band ‘The Eskys’ and a DJ.
A Moment To Remember The happy couple loved it all and especially the fact that they had everyone they love together, creating an amazing atmosphere.
Honeymoon After their first night in a rental cottage, the couple headed off for a mini-moon in the Lake District. As they live in Texas in USA, they plan to honeymoon properly in Alaska this summer.
Any Advice? Claire recommends to ‘Give yourself plenty of time to make decisions’ and claims that she could not have lived without her excel spreadsheets in the lead-up to the big day.

Claire & Andy
3rd July 2009
They Met Claire was on a girly night out in Liverpool when she met Andy in a nightclub. He had been talked into going out that night by friends - luckily for him, or he might never have met the girl of his dreams. Romance flourished and Andy proposed on a New Year break to Peckforton Castle in Cheshire, presenting Claire with a sparkly diamond and emerald engagement ring.
Wedding Venue In the Spring of 2008, the couple started looking at venues. They fell in love with Brook Meadow, a cosy hotel set in the countryside with its own Pavilion Island surrounded by water. The staff made Claire and Andy feel relaxed and confident that they would go that extra mile to make the day special. The Theme The idyllic rural setting was perfect for the Midsummer's Night Dream theme they planned. The ceremony took place in a romantic thatched paviion on
an islet, connected by a bridge from the hotel's pretty gardens. Orange and green set the colour theme and all the details were nature-inspired, from love-potion favours decorated with skeleton leaves and butterflies to the confetti cones made by a friend with rose petals from her garden, finished in orange and green ribbons. What They Wore Claire chose an Alfred Angelo gown, embroidered with green vine leaves that matched the wedding day them perfectly.
Making her into a fairy princess, she accessorised with a sparkly Swarovski crystal tiara, crystal shoes and a matching necklace. Andy wore a traditional hired morning suit set off with an orange gerbera buttonhole with bird grass, matching Claire's bouquet. The two bridemaids wore Alfred Angelo gowns in clover, picking up on the colour in the detail of the bride's dress. The couple's three-year-old son was page boy and wore a replica of the groom's outfit while a little flower girl dressed in ivory completed the wedding party.
The Cake Claire and Andy's cake was a three-tier chocolate cake from M&S, decorated with orange ribbons and flowers.
The Flowers The bride's bouquet was made up of bright orange gerbera with bird grass, hand-tied with folded aspidistra leaves. The bridesmaids had miniature versions while the tables were decorated with glass bowl vases filled with orange gerbera and bird grass.
First Dance The couple had great fun choosing the music for their wedding, walking out to the theme from Z Cars (both of them being huge Everton FC fans!) and for the first dance they picked Bon Jovi's Always.A Moment to Remember 'We wanted something different that everyone would remember', says Claire, 'so we chose a Samba band to play for us following the drinks reception.
Their Advice You'll save loads on the budget if you make your own favours etc - it is good fun, relatively easy and lets you add your own personal touch.

Marie & Andy
9 June 2009
They Met Marie and Andy first met online; then one Christmas before Andy was due to go away, he gave Marie a very special Christmas card. At first, in all the excitement, Marie managed to miss the all-important proposal - but at second glance she discovered a diamond ring and happily accepted!
Wedding Venue The couple started looking straight away for their dream destination abroad. As they loved going on holiday more than anything, they decided to combine the honeymoon with the wedding. After much research through WeddingPath, they decided on Nissi Beach Hotel in Cyprus as the venue for them.
The Theme The pair decided on a minimalist simplicity for their wedding theme, as they wanted the natural beauty to take centre stage. They jazzed it up with vibrant and colourful tropical flowers with a colour scheme of coral, white and silver, adding to their chic
look. The reception had white table linen and chair covers, with scattered silver confetti and coral rose petals on the tables. They also provided scratch cards and love heart sweets as favours for the guests.
What They Wore The bride wore a strapless ‘Coco’ Maggie Sottero dress in
white, with sparkling beaded bodice and flowing skirt. She accessorized with white silk flowers in her hair and a thick sparkly wishbone necklace with matching bracelet, as well as white silk ballet pumps and a Chelsea FC garter as her something blue!
The groom wore grey trousers with a white wing collar shirt, from Bhs, along with a grey waistcoat from Next and a coral cravat, matching the bridesmaids’ dresses. The outfit was topped off with some black loafers, and a cream rose buttonhole with a silver bow.
Marie’s bridesmaids wore coral prom dresses from Littlewoods, with coral sashes and clear and coral Swarovski crystals. The groomsmen wore similar outfits to the groom, but with silver cravats.
The Cake The couple chose a one-tiered, light chocolate cake, made locally in Cyprus. It was decorated with ivory icing and ivory flowers with silver glitter detail, keeping to their sparkly theme.
The Flowers The beautiful flowers at the venue and in the gardens meant that the couple didn’t need any extra venue flowers! Marie carried a bouquet of white roses, coral lilies and cream roses, with the bridesmaids carrying smaller versions of the same.
First Dance The newlyweds danced for the first time to ‘Greatest Day’ by Take That, and also had a re-play with a live rendition later in the evening at a karaoke bar, after the reception ended.
A Moment To Remember Although Marie loved the whole day, she was particularly surprised and delighted when her chief bridesmaid presented her with a book of messages and
photos on the morning of the big day, from all the people who couldn’t attend. She also loved walking with her father to the aisle and hearing the music for the first time. Marie was also especially moved by the speeches, which were both amusing and emotional!
Honeymoon The happy couple spent some extra days in Cyprus, after their guests had left, for some relaxation and romance. The holiday was topped off with a complimentary champagne candlelit meal from the hotel, ending a perfect holiday!
Any Advice? Marie advises: ‘Try your best to stay calm, it helps to take in everything and you find yourself enjoying yourself, staying cool and really appreciating what is going on around you’. She also suggests to ‘Spend some time with just your husband, even just a moment to take it all in together.’

Andrea & Nick
3 May 2008
They Met Andrea and Nick first met through mutual friends in October 2002. Four years exactly down the line, Nick whisked Andrea away for a surprise visit to Bath. They spent a romantic day - Nick proposed in the gardens by the river.
Wedding Venue They started looking for venues immediately and eventually decided upon St Mary’s Catholic Church for the ceremony, as Andrea’s parents had married there twenty-five years earlier. They opted for Morley Hayes Hotel as their reception venue, as they loved the beautiful scenery and good photo opportunities, as well as being nearby to their home.
The Theme The couple chose a colour scheme of white, silver and teal with a theme of butterflies. This was carried through the whole day with the table decorations of silver sugared almonds and crystals, as well as the centrepieces including small silver butterflies. They also had a butterfly release in the gardens during the drinks reception, adding a unique touch to their big day. Two photo boards of their lives so far added another lovely personal note.
What They Wore The bride wore a classic ‘fairytale’ dress in bright white, with a buttoned bodice scattered with beads and sequins, flowing into a full tulle skirt and long train. Andrea accessorized with white satin sandals, a cathedral length veil, scattered with crystals as well as a tiara and crystal butterfly clips in her hair. The outfit was topped off with a crystal necklace, pearl earrings and a white sequined wrap for the evening.
The groom wore a black suit with an ivory waistcoat, teamed with a matching silk tie and handkerchief in pale gold. He had a buttonhole
of a single white rose with eucalyptus and ivy foliage.
Andrea’s three bridesmaids wore floor-length teal gowns with sweetheart necklines, and sparkling silver wraps from Debenhams and silver shoes. They also wore crystal tiaras and butterfly clips in their hair and silver heart jewellery. The groomsmen wore matching suits and waistcoats, the same as Nick, but with teal ties and handkerchiefs to tie in with the bridesmaids.
The Cake The couple chose a four-tiered traditional fruitcake with marzipan and plain white icing, decorated with white ribbon, white flowers and silver feather butterflies. The cake topper was a crystal butterfly, all made by a family friend.
The Flowers Andrea carried a shower bouquet of white roses with crystals, orchids and eucalyptus and ruscus foliage. The bridesmaids carried hand-tied bouquets of white roses with crystals and eucalyptus foliage. The table centrepieces at the reception were made up of tall glass vases filled with silver butterfly confetti and long white lilies with green foliage.
A Moment To Remember The couple loved the speeches as they were particularly memorable, as well as lighting the memory candle to loved ones no longer with them. Andrea’s mother also read out a blessing from the Pope and a wedding card from Nick’s favourite football team was presented.
Honeymoon The newlyweds spent their two-week honeymoon in Jamaica where they stayed at Monetgo Bay, having a fantastic time with even a chance to swim with dolphins!
Any Advice? Andrea advises to ‘Try not to involve too many people in your wedding planning as this can cause unnecessary stress.’ She also recommends that ‘all new b2bs join weddingpath as the forums are very useful and it’s great setting up your own wedding website.’ The groom gives a top tip to, ‘Make a timetable of what needs doing and by when.’
