REAL WEDDING Love Train 2890 views

Rachael & Ian
27 September 2008
They Met The couple met through mutual friends at a couple of different parties and first got together at a Football World Cup 2006 barbeque. It was love from then on and Rachael was proposed to twice - once before her ring was ready and again afterwards!
Wedding Venue The couple wanted a venue that was fun and a little bit different from the norm. Kew Steam Museum ticked all the boxes and the couple loved the fact that could pick their own caterers, band and florist. Free corkage also meant that they could serve their guests with flowing French wine, the couple sourced from across the channel
The Theme Rachael and Ian chose red and lime green to set the colour theme with red candles in tall candelabras, red petals on the tables and red and green lighting on the museum's steam engines. As the finishing touch, lime green and red chocolate hearts were placed on the tables as favours, along with matching stationery.
What They Wore The bride wore a classic and simple V-neck dress with a long, flowing train. She accessorized with red velvet platforms and a long veil with scattered diamante, held in with a rose comb. The final touch was the moonstone jewellery, borrowed from her mother.
The groom wore a black Hugo Boss suit with Paul Smith shoes and a white shirt and lime green tie, fitting in with the theme. He also wore a buttonhole of a red rose with lime green foliage.
Rachael had two bridesmaids, who wore printed ivory rose prom dresses and carried red roses with ivy. The groomsmen wore their own black suits with white shirts as well as ties, as a gift from the bride and groom. They wore buttonholes of lime green-tinged roses with red berries.
The Cake The happy couple chose a bright red cake with two tiers of chocolate and vanilla sponge and one tier of fruitcake. It was decorated with handmade green apples separating the tiers as well as scattered around the cake, all made by a friend.
The Flowers Rachael carried a tear drop bouquet made up of Grand Prix roses, lime green shamrock Chrysanthumums, green berries and trailing Amaranthus. The flowers at the reception matched the bouquet, along with lime green Hydrangeas and red berries.
First Dance The newlyweds danced for the first time to ‘Amazing’ by George Michael, followed by music from Rachael’s singing teacher’s band, with vocals led by the lead singer of 80’s band Shack Attack.
A Moment To Remember Rachael loved walking out to ‘Pomp & Circumstance’ from signing the register as their family and friends clapped and laughed at the suitability of the music. She also enjoyed the reception and spending time with her new husband!
Honeymoon Instead of a traditional honeymoon they chose to jet off on a ‘Mummymoon’ with both of their mothers, to Cyprus for a week. They also planned their real honeymoon for January with a romantic visit to Kerala in India for two weeks.
Any Advice? Rachael advises to take on the ‘power of positive thinking’ and to ‘negotiate on your prices, and just expect it to be the best day, where everything will go right and have lots of fun!’ Ian advises: ‘Don’t forget the rings in your hurry to get to the pub!’

Sarah & Samuel
10 August 2008
They Met Sarah and Sam met through mutual friends, seven years ago when they were students at St Andrews University. They immediately hit it off and five years down the line, Sam proposed in The Grove Hotel, Hertfordshire after a romantic spa weekend. Sam had even planned a dinner with their parents for the night after!
Wedding Venue The couple wanted something modern and stylish for their venue and looked in Sarah’s childhood Dorset for inspiration. They chose The Harbour Heights as their venue, a modern hotel with great food. It was also the place where Sarah’s grandparents had celebrated their ruby wedding anniversary.
The Theme The couple chose a romantic theme of pale blue and pink with butterflies which made great impact at the reception. The place
names were painted wooden hearts hung on ribbon with their wedding date on, which guests later reused as Christmas tree decorations! The tables were decorated with lots of butterflies, organza ribbon, scented candles and table crystals, while bay trees were scattered with pink and blue butterflies.
What They Wore The bride wore a flowing, strapless gown by Caroline Castigliano with a pale pink sash to
fit in with the colour scheme. She accessorized with a delicate pink tiara as well as a diamond butterfly necklace from Sam.
The groom wore a charcoal grey traditional morning suit with an
ivory waistcoat and a pink cravat, hired from Pronuptia. The outfit was finished off with a double ivory rose buttonhole.
Sarah had five bridesmaids who wore pale blue dresses with ivory-coloured sashes while the youngest wore an ivory dress with a pale blue sash, all with fascinators and a tiara for the youngest. The groomsmen wore charcoal grey morning suits with ivory waistcoats with the best man and the father of the bride wearing a pale pink cravat.
The Cake The couple selected a three-tiered cake, which was simple yet elegant with ivory ribbon and a diamante brooch as decoration. The top tier was fruit cake (to be saved as a Christening cake), with the other two layers of chocolate and lemon, made by Sussex Cake Creations.
The Flowers The bride carried a trailing bouquet of white orchids with pink centres, scattered with ivory butterflies. The bridesmaids had pink and ivory rose bouquets with blue butterflies. The reception was also decorated with roses and butterflies with martini vases as table centres filled with white lilies, ivory roses, gerbera and eucalyptus with pink and blue butterflies. The top table had low bowls of lilies
and orchids with butterflies all floating in pretty pink water.
First Dance The happy couple danced to ‘So Close’ by John Mayer, with the music continuing with the swing band for the evening.
A Moment To Remember Sarah’s favourite part was having photographs taken in Poole Park on her late grandfather’s bench, making her feel very close to him on her big day.
Honeymoon After spending their first night at the Harbour Heights hotel, the newlyweds jetted off for a week in Santorini, Greece. They stayed in a boutique hotel with the highlight of chartering a yacht for a day!
Any Advice? Sarah advises, ‘Make sure you keep a separate wedding diary as this helped me keep all of my non-wedding appointments separate.’ Sam suggests, ‘Make sure you take some time out with your new wife during the day to enjoy the experience. We went up to our balcony and watched our guests enjoying themselves!’

Hollie & Tim
24 August 2008
They Met Hollie and Tim met through a mutual friend on a day out whilst they were studying at university. They soon got to know each other and before long were head over heels in love. One day after work, Tim popped the question, quite out of the blue, on a busy roadside. He got down on one knee and proposed with a jelly ring, Hollie ran away, embarrassed, but Tim caught her up - and the answer was 'yes'!
Wedding Venue The couple were engaged for a year and a half before looking for a venue. After a lot of searching and sifting through possible locations, they came upon Whitehall Hotel in Essex. Hollie realised that it was where her cousin’s reception had been held ten years earlier. They loved its character and charm and immediately knew it was the venue for them - especially when they found out that it only held one wedding per day.
The Theme The couple decided not to have a traditional wedding, but wanted something personal and individual to them. They kept to the colour white with accents of any colour they wanted, and incorporated their interests in design and
science into their big day. Tim designed their stationery, with their invites having the design of an old Americana tattoo with a heart, banner and swallows. They included the same design in temporary tattoos so that people could wear them to the wedding. Meanwhile, the table plan was set out like a periodic table with guests’ initials as the elements!
What They Wore The bride wore a pure white dress with a huge skirt. Originally she wanted a coloured dress, but fell in love with the white with its strapless neckline and hooped full skirt covered in crystal detailing. She accessorized with a hat, perfect with her short bob, which had crystal decoration matching her her dress. Hollie also wore pink heart flats from Office with simple diamante jewellery and as an extra touch
of pink had a garter decorated with a skull.
The groom wore a dark grey morning suit with a white waistcoat and a cravat in the same material as the bridesmaids’ dresses. He finished the outfit off with black brogues, orange socks and a blue sweet pea buttonhole.
The bridesmaids wore a two-piece outfit of a strapless bodice and full-length skirt in charcoal grey, with feather fascinators in their hair. The flower girl wore a white dress from Bhs, with some added sparkle of crystals and sequins. The groomsmen wore grey morning suits with white waistcoats and silver cravats and white sweet pea buttonholes.
The Cake Instead of going for a traditional fruit cake, the couple opted for their favourite after-dinner treat - cheese! They chose a three-tiered cake from Waitrose, with an additional layer from Cheeseshed. They selected Red Cheddar, Gorwydd Caerphilly, Vignotte and Cashel Blue for the top tier, served with crackers, chutneys and pickles.
The Flowers The couple chose white hydrangea heads to decorate the tables at the reception, placed in chemical glassware with glass shards at the bottom, on top of a mirror. The bride carried a hand-tied, multicoloured, perfumed freesia bouquet while the bridesmaids carried single, white hydrangea heads. The flower girl had the honour of a wand with little, multi-coloured freesias at the tip.
First Dance The newlyweds danced to ‘Close To Me’ by The Cure, followed by music from a DJ. They played a selection of their favourite songs as well as two recommendations from each guest, added in the RSVP, making sure that everyone was dancing!
A Moment To Remember The couple loved seeing all of their friends and family enjoying themselves and dancing at the evening reception. They were also really moved by the three readings at the ceremony. Another memorable moment was when nobody spoke for objecting to their marriage, with the couple looking around to check!
Honeymoon The happy couple spent their first night at the hotel in
the Penthouse Suite, after their reception ended. They set off for a mini-moon in Turkey but plan to go on a backpacking adventure around Japan, which guests contributed towards as their gift list.
Any Advice? Hollie advises, ‘Remember the day is about the two of you. Make the day special for you even if it’s something silly that no-one else notices…you can both share a giggle.’ Hollie also comments that she couldn’t have lived without the ‘advice from the girlies on WP’. Tim suggests, ‘A good photographer is worth every penny. Ours made sure we got time to spend together when having photos.’

They wanted something with character, so when they saw Allerton Castle, they fell in love with it. “It’s so grand, just like a fairytale castle,” says Clare. “The staff were lovely, so we knew our day would be a success.”
The Theme “We wanted our wedding to be classic and elegant,” Clare says. “So we based most of our decisions around that idea, and chose simple, elegant and timeless flowers and decorations.” As the couple had a winter wedding, they placed candles all over the venue, which gave a magical and romantic feel to the day.

The couple had tall candelabras on the tables, while on the top table they had three mirror cube vases filled with pink roses and gerberas with a tall church candle in the middle of the display.First Dance The couple enjoyed their first dance to Someone Like You by Van Morrisson. “It was the first time all day that I had a few tears,” says Clare. “It really occurred to me at this point that after all the time we spent planning, it was turning into the most perfect day ever.”
A Moment To Remember “Walking down the aisle and seeing my fiancé standing at the end, with tears in his eyes,” Clare says. “The whole day was amazing though, from start to finish.”Honeymoon Clare and Jason spent their honeymoon on Kuredu Island in the Maldives.
Any Advice Clare says, “Enjoy the planning - it can be so much fun. And don’t sweat the small stuff, all that matters is that you marry the man you love and you and your guests have a good time."

Emma & Lee
22 August 2008
They Met Emma and Lee first met at a friend’s leaving party and immediately hit it off! Six months down the line, Lee had planned to propose to Emma on Christmas day,
having already asked Emma’s father and colluded with her mother over the ring. However things didn’t go as planned and one day in November Lee got down on one knee in a porchway on their way home from work!
Wedding Venue Four years after getting engaged, the couple started to look for a venue. They decided on a civil ceremony and chanced upon a wedding fair at a hotel in Falmouth. Emma immediately fell in love with the venue with its spectacular gardens and characteristic old building, and they decided that it was the one for them.
The Theme The couple chose a fairytale theme with touches of lilac and pretty pink. Emma started collecting sparkly decorations and masses of table adornments in their theme colours of pink and lilac. The top table was decorated with large wine glasses filled with pink and lilac jewels and a rose bud
candle in each. Emma handmade the favours with pink, lilac and ivory material holding lilac chocolate balls for ladies and football chocolates for men, finished with riboons.
What They Wore The bride wore a sweetheart two-piece gown with a champagne-coloured corset and ivory skirt. With beaded detailing on the corset, the full skirt had a long train, making Emma feel like a princess. To finish her outfit, whe wore a striking tiara and simple jewellery, to complement her red hair.
The groom wore a grey morning tail suit with a white shirt and lilac waistcoat and cravat. The best man and Emma’s father wore the same suits, all hired from Moss Bros in Truro.
The chief bridesmaid wore a floor-length lilac dress with a shawl, whilst the flower girls wore pink fairy outfits with wings and wands from Claire’s Accessories and knitted cardigans, made by Emma’s mother.
The Cake Emma’s mother made their three-tiered cake, decorated with white icing and simple piping. The finishing touches were added with flowers and pearls, as well as fairies, with a comical topper of a bride dragging a groom to the wedding!
The Flowers Emma carried a wand-style bouquet made up of pink, lilac and ivory roses interspersed with jewels and sea grass. The chief
bridesmaid had the same bouquet but without the sea grass, whilst Lee wore a buttonhole of a single ivory rose with jewels.
First Dance The happy couple danced to ‘If You’re Not The One’ by Daniel Beddingfield, which was their special song!
A Moment To Remember Emma loved it when she first walked down the aisle with her father, seeing Lee at the end for the first time. She found it very emotional for the day to be finally taking place! Another memorable moment was when Lee had arranged for a swing singer friend to sing at the wedding as a surprise for Emma.
Honeymoon The newlyweds spent their first night in a beautiful apartment in the hotel, complete with large bathroom and Jacuzzi! They decided against a honeymoon and instead put their money towards double glazing for their new house!
Any Advice? Emma advises, ‘Don’t be stupid, a wedding doesn’t have to cost a fortune. I had everything I wanted and more for £3000, so be realistic.’ She also suggests,
‘Please yourselves and no-one else, at the end of the day it is your day, so enjoy it!’
