WEDDING GOSSIP California Bride 3 12347 views

Leigh is four planning weeks away from her big Scottish day, all organised from across the pond in California. This week she enjoys the American tradition of a bridal shower - umbrellas to the ready ladies!
As our wedding is a decidedly cross-cultural affair I felt that I wanted to incorporate some American traditions into the proceedings. My first encounter with the American way of doing things was somewhat a baptism of fire as I was introduced to the concept of Bridal Showers. The Bridal Shower is thought to have originated from the days of dowry, when if a bride’s family was unable to provide a dowry for her then the women of the community would club together and present her with gifts that would allow her to set up a home and thus allow her to marry the man of her dreams. Quite heartwarming really!
The friends of my beloved’s mother organized mine a few weeks ago and very kindly presented me with the photographs this week which I thought I’d share with you. A shower usually starts with canapés and cocktails followed by lunch then the opening of presents! Showers can be arranged around a theme, for example
kitchenware or lingerie (I have a friend who was given a thong with a veil at hers!). Games are often played, such as a quiz about the couple or a competition to create the best wedding dress from toilet paper…
What I quickly discovered is that it is quite exhausting to open gifts! I also received a surprise when I opened a present that my lovely bridesmaids had organized. Currently thousands of miles away, I, of course, burst into tears!
Top Trend
As bouquet and garter tosses make their way across the ocean, British brides are catching on to the bridal shower too. You could be showered with gifts very soon.

WEDDING GOSSIP California Bride 2 12838 views

Leigh is five planning weeks away from her big Scottish day, all organised from across the pond in California. A keen fan of Strictly Come Dancing, dance lessons are strictly on the agenda.
«After months of watching Strictly Come Dancing, it only seemed natural that our first dance would be the perfect opportunity to live out my dream. We would be floating effortlessly around the dance floor followed by rapturous applause by our astounded guests. My beloved had a different vision. He was not keen on the idea of prancing about like a prize idiot followed by the uproarious laughter of his friends.
But all that was to change after attending a friend’s wedding a few months ago. As we watched the embarrassed couple cling to each other awkwardly for what seemed like an eternity, my hubby-to-be leaned over and said that actually we should take dancing lessons. He would later claim that his enthusiasm was due to overindulgence at the free bar. But the
words had been said and there was no going back - I booked five private lessons.
Thanks to ‘Strictly’ (or ‘Dancing with the Stars’ as it’s known Stateside) dance classes are booming. However, our own previous experience of a Tango class run by a woman in a rather disturbing leotard, had left us
apprehensive. How relieved we were to find our leotard-less dance instructor was fantastic. After listening to our chosen song and declaring it to be a waltz, she had us stepping our way around the dance floor with ease (well, almost!) in no time. What surprised us most was how much we enjoyed the classes, they were fun, great exercise and actually very romantic. I was genuinely sad at the end of our last class this week.»
Leigh's Tip
While taking private classes isn’t exactly cheap, it’s worth the expense and is guaranteed to score straight tens with your guests! If you’re interested in taking ballroom dancing classes, why not check out the BBC ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ page for a list of schools in your area at bbc.co.uk.

Diary Date - Wedding Show 11684 views

Visiting a wedding show at a hotel or venue is a great way of seeing behind the scenes and also getting to meet local suppliers. This week Hadley Park House in Telford is holding a Summer evening wedding fayre.
What better and more convenient way to plan your wedding, than going to a wedding event at a real venue. Set in three acres of landscaped gardens and built in the late 18th Century, Hadley Park House provides the perfect setting for any wedding and will be hosting it’s first ever Wedding Fayre on Wednesday 25th June.
Perfect Event
The Wedding Fayre starts at 6pm, giving couples the opportunity to come along and enjoy a fun and relaxed evening, whilst gathering inspiration, ideas and advice on their big day. From beautiful bridal wear to gorgeous cakes, cars and jewellery, all the details are covered. Wedding experts such as photographers, travel agents and florists will also be there to give advice, as well as Mark Lewis, owner of Hadley Park House to answer any questions, and chat about everything from the venue to the menu! Entry to the Wedding Fayre is free, with the event coming to a close at 9pm. A Hog Roast courtesy of Percy Pig will be available for anyone who gets hungry.
Get Married
Hadley Park is available on an exclusive-use basis, enabling you to enjoy the House as if it were your own! Tucked away amidst the Shropshire countryside, the House is naturally hidden, giving you total privacy and the perfect backdrop for all your wedding photos. evening firework displays. Hadley Park can cater for weddings of up to 85 guests during the day and 140 in the evening, with the additional option of a marquee in the grounds. It is licensed for civil ceremonies, civil partnerships and naming ceremonies. Accommodation is available for up to 24 guests, with each of the bedrooms having its own unique style and resident teddy bear!
Red Tape
