PLANNING Happy Hens 4 13403 views

Celebrating your hen night is a real milestone. A whole step closer to being MrsX, it is also a great time for bonding with new sister-in-laws and old friends. Add a fun activity and you'll be in for a never-to-forget experience. This week we check out murder mystery weekends.
A great alternative to the spa or weekend in Europe, you'll die laughing at an Original Murder Weekend. Joy Swift, who created the Murder Weekends concept 27 years ago, says: “Hen parties have an absolute hoot on our Murder Weekends. Alongside the murder
puzzle we have hilarious games, a party atmosphere and even the chance to wear silly costumes. Hen parties are really comfortable with the clear one-off price, with no hidden extras, which avoids upsets or friction in the group. It’s also much easier to arrange than a foreign trip!”
Joy's murder weekends are cleverly designed to tax the braincells with at least three mysteries to solve. Using TV-quality make-up, topical themes and convincing actors, the whole scenario is incredibly realistic. At the same time it is a lot of fun and is great for bonding. Joy adds, "It’s particularly good if a lot of the party don’t know each other – they won’t be strangers for more than five minutes once they start sleuthing!”
Original Murder Weekends begin with a welcome reception at 8pm on Friday night and continue until 12noon on Sunday, when the Detective Inspector concludes his/her summing up. The weekends are run exclusively in Mercure Hotels. Visit murder.co.uk for a full list of dates. For bookings made during 2008, Original Murder Weekends will give the organiser a £50 discount and a bottle of champagne for the bride.

The average cost of a wedding in the UK is £17,000, a worldaway from the average cost of a WAG wedding, which comes in at anything between £250,000 and £4 million. However, leading shopping comparison site Kelkoo (Hitwise UK), has some handy cost-saving tips.
Bruce Fair, managing director, Kelkoo, says: “When you’re planning a wedding it’s all too easy to let the budget go out of the window. But, just because it’s your special day, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t shop around."

Most brides want to look their best on the big day and if going to a bridal bootcamp is what it takes, why not get a few hens in on the action and have some pre-wedding laughs at the same time.

The wedding season is here and with 91% of UK brides–to-be wanting to lose weight before their big day, personal training company MOTIV8 is hosting a series of bridal boot camps in Tintagel, Cornwall this summer. The first boot camp takes place 3rd – 7th July 2008.
Fraser Pannett at MOTIV8 explains: “The bridal boot camps have proved a huge success with some brides to be losing 7lb in weight. The exercise plans will ensure guests work hard but have fun and, most importantly, achieve their personal fitness and weight loss goals.”

Motiv8’s boot camp is designed to help brides kick start their weight loss regime or just lose those last few pounds before the big day. Under the expert guidance of the MOTIV8 team, the programme for the weekend is tailored to individual requirements but will typically include:
• Weight loss program including ‘stairs of sin & seaside hike’
• Toning and sculpting via boxing and weights circuits
• Flexibility and relaxation through a stretching component
• Nutritional guidance and tailored diet plans
• Nordic walking
• Gym stick workouts
As many hens can come along as you like, or for the hen weekend with a difference MOTIV8 also run private boot camps for groups. The summer weekend boot camp costs £350 and includes four nights’ hotel accommodation on a half board basis. Spaces for the July weekend are limited and can be reserved on a first come first service basis by calling MOTIV8 on 07050 249202 or visit www.motiv8fitness.co.uk.
